WILSON MONK

Trainer: Phil D’Amato

Last race: Feb. 26, race 2

Finish: 1st by 3

Beyer: 79

Five-year-old first-time starter crushed Cal-bred maidens to become the first at this meet to win a six-furlong race from rail. Full of run behind slow pace, angled out, kicked. Sharp.

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, February 27, 2021 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

Our Pix last week were salvaged by a trifecta-placing at Santa Anita, which was decent considering how the race played out. Across the country eight BreezeFigs maidens won at Aqueduct (BreezeFigs exacta), Delta Downs, Fair Grounds, Gulfstream (three), Santa Anita and Turfway. Let’s hope we have some cooperative meteorological events today for a pretty widespread card. We’ve found one that might pay off nicely, see below. Stay safe and good luck!

Free: Playing horses is all about risk versus reward

Barbara D. Livingston
Our Super Freak might be catching Monomoy Girl at the right time to pull off an upset.

No reasonable horseplayer expects Monomoy Girl to be defeated in her comeback Sunday at Oaklawn Park.

She is the class of the Grade 3 Bayakoa Stakes, with superior Beyer Speed Figures and a pressing style in a race light on speed. She has trained forwardly, and runs well fresh. The handicapping basics of class, speed, pace, and condition are why Monomoy Girl is likely to be odds-on.

Weekend GamePlan for Feb. 27, 2021: Picks for Mac Diarmida, Razorback, Gulfstream Mile

With two shorter races under his belt this year, Admission Office gets to go a more suitable 1 3/8 miles in the Mac Diarmida.

Sure, it would be great to have playable opinions in the two most-anticipated races on this last Saturday in February, the Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream and the Southwest at Oaklawn. But I don’t.
