Lane's End faces additional lawsuit involving Lemon Drop Kid syndicate

LEXINGTON, Ky. – California Thoroughbred owner Jerry Jamgotchian’s KNC Investments has filed suit against Lane’s End, alleging that the farm has refused to provide accounting records relating to the Lemon Drop Kid syndicate, in violation of the syndicate agreement.
KNC Investments joined the syndicate on Jan. 28 after paying $350,000 for a share in Lemon Drop Kid.

Top broodmare North of Eden dies at 28

North of Eden, the dam of champion Paradise Creek and two other Grade 1 winners, has died at age 28, Bridlewood Farm has announced.

A Bridlewood foundation mare, North of Eden died due to natural causes, according to the Ocala, Fla., farm.

Rogue Romance has been withdrawn from consideration for the 137th Kentucky Derby after being diagnosed with a small fracture in the inside quarter of his left front foot, trainer Ken McPeek said Saturday.

Suffolk County OTB files for bankruptcy

Suffolk Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection in the Eastern District of New York on Friday, according to the company, becoming the second OTB company in New York to enter bankruptcy over the past two years.

In a statement, Suffolk officials said the company’s branches and other operations will remain open as it reorganizes. Suffolk operates 12 bricks-and-mortar OTB branches on the eastern half of Long Island, and has self-service betting machines in 16 other locations. The company also operates an account-wagering site.

Unusual Heat trainer takes opportunities as they come

Barry Abrams, who trained Unusual Heat, started his career in the harness and Standardbred ranks.

Traveling from Israel by boat, the Abrams family − Barry, 9, and David, 4, and their parents − arrived in New York in the fall of 1963.

Nov. 22, 1963, to be exact. Another of those days of infamy − the day President John F. Kennedy was fatally shot.

“We were coming to the land of opportunity,” Barry Abrams said. “We heard about the president on the boat, before we got to the pier. People started crying. We were coming to the land of opportunity, and we didn’t know what to think.”
