Rapid Redux, the mid-Atlantic-based horse who won his 22nd consecutive race on Wednesday, has been selected for the Secretariat “Vox Populi” Award, according to the administrators of the award.
Rapid Redux was selected by 39 percent of the voters making a selection for the award on a website established for the purpose, according to a release distributed by the administrators, who include Penny Chenery, the owner of the late Triple Crown winner Secretariat. The award was determined by a combination of public vote, a committee, and Chenery, the administrators said.
It should come as no surprise that the son of a famous Thoroughbred trainer, imbued with a rich family legacy, is well on his way to establishing a high-profile racing and breeding operation, one with its sights set on nothing less than the greatest prizes offered by the game.
In this case the father happens to be one of the most successful trainers in the history of racing – in India. And his son, virtually forbidden by his father to enter the business, is making his mark instead in his adopted country of America.
“Billionaire showman” Cordell Anderson is best known for his work in Keeneland’s auction ring as a showman, one of the people who hold horses during the bidding. A Lexington, Ky., resident, he has also worked for Taylor Made Farm, prominent 2-year-old consignor Murray Smith, and at racetracks from Jamaica to Kentucky.
