LEXINGTON, Ky. – Michael Matz was a medal-winning Olympic equestrian, saved four children from a burning airplane, and trained a legendary horse named Barbaro to win the Kentucky Derby. But the poor guy still has no control over the weather.

Kentucky Derby: Hollendorfer still in decision process with Rousing Sermon

Rousing Sermon may start in the Snow Chief for California-breds rather than the Kentucky Derby.

A decision on whether Rousing Sermon will be pointed for the Kentucky Derby may be made this week, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said on Tuesday.

Hollendorfer said he intends to have a conversation with owner Larry Williams and Dan Kiser, who manages Williams’s farm, to determine a plan. One option other than the Kentucky Derby is the $300,000 Snow Chief Stakes for California-breds at Hollywood Park on April 28.

“We have not ruled out the running in the Kentucky Derby,”

Len Ragozin sells speed figure producer The Sheets

The Sheets, the venerable New York-based producer of speed figures, has been sold by the company’s founder, Len Ragozin, to longtime Sheets associate Jake Haddad and horse owner Steve Davison, according to multiple news releases

Haddad, 53, has worked for The Sheets for more than three decades and has been an integral part of the company for many years. Davison, 44, is a Thoroughbred owner and breeder and the majority owner of Twin Creeks Racing LLC, which campaigns, among other horses, top handicapper Mission Impazible.

Website launched by Jockey Club, NTRA

The Jockey Club and the National Thoroughbred Racing Association on Monday officially launched a new website designed to promote the sport to new and existing fans.

The website, at followhorseracing.com, is part of a larger effort by the Jockey Club to implement recommendations contained in a report it funded last year. The report, which was completed by the consulting company McKinsey & Company, said that racing needed a more focused presence on the internet and would benefit from creating social-network games and online tutorials.

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -   El Padrino, whose Kentucky Derby status remains in limbo, worked four furlongs in 49.01 seconds in company with 2011 Travers winner Stay Thirsty on Sunday morning at Palm Meadows. The work was the first for El Padrino since his fourth-place finish in the Grade 1 Florida Derby 15 days ago.
