TVG flagship to broadcast Churchill Downs races through September

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Races from Churchill Downs in Louisville will be shown live on the flagship network of TVG throughout the remainder of the track’s September meet, the two parties confirmed Thursday.

The agreement between the two competitors is an indication that their sometimes acrimonious relationship may be mellowing.

However, officials for the two companies declined to comment on the agreement, aside from noting that Churchill’s races will be shown live on TVG1 for the remaining 11 days of live racing at the iconic track.

Texas Chrome will remain retired

Dustin Orona Photography
Texas Chrome became a millionaire after winning the Assault Stakes in July.

Danny Keene had debated a racing comeback for his millionaire Texas Chrome, but said he recently decided against it. Texas Chrome will stand his second season at stud this coming year, at a new facility Keene has built for the horse in Hot Springs, Ark.

“I don’t think I’ll run him,” Keene said. “I woke up the other morning and I thought, ‘It’s not worth it.’ I’m looking forward to his babies hitting the ground in late January and early February.”

Keene bred a number of mares to Texas Chrome.

Dave Dahl, longtime trainer, dies

Longtime Hastings trainer Dave Dahl died last Sunday. Dahl, 72, also worked as a security guard in the winner’s enclosure at Hastings.

In 2010, he heroically prevented others from getting hurt when he took the brunt of a loose horse that barreled into the winner’s enclosure at full speed.

Dahl was seriously injured, however, and never fully recovered physically. His positive demeanor when he returned to the track a year later was always on full display, though.

Kentucky Downs postpones Sunday card to Wednesday

After announcing earlier in the morning via Twitter that its 10-race Sunday card was still on, officials at Kentucky Downs announced shortly after 8 a.m. Central that the card has been postponed in its entirety to Wednesday.

Rain that pounded other areas around the track finally found its way here in the early morning, and there was no sign of a letup, making racing today unfeasible.

Daily Racing Form will reprint past performances for the postponed Sunday card in its Wednesday editions.
