My Jen scores by a head in Gallant Bloom

My Jen, an unheralded 3-year-old filly coming off a runner-up finish in the Victory Ride Stakes at Saratoga, was up in the final yards to nail fellow longshot Moontune Missy by a head in Saturday’s Grade 2, $150,000 Gallant Bloom Handicap, a Win and You’re In event for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint.

Pletcher's Breeders' Cup hopefuls get to work

ELMONT, N.Y. – The Breeders’ Cup World Championships are still six weeks away, but trainer Todd Pletcher certainly had that series of multi-million dollar races on his mind Saturday morning when putting several of his prospects through workouts at Belmont Park.

Pletcher worked a plethora of his prospective Breeders’ Cup starters, but when working his impressive debut winner Uncle Mo five furlongs in company with two other juveniles, it was with the idea of him having ready to face a large field in the BC Juvenile at Churchill Downs on Nov. 6.

Breeders' Cup tweaks betting menu

Breeders’ Cup will offer bettors substantially the same betting menu at this year’s event on Nov. 5-6 at Churchill Downs in Louisville as was offered last year at Santa Anita, including a wager that allows bettors to select which jockey will have the most wins in the 14 Breeders’ Cup races, the organization announced on Thursday.

Sara Louise auditions for spot in Breeders' Cup

ELMONT, N.Y. – Better later than never, the multiple graded stakes winner Sara Louise is poised to make her 4-year-old debut in Saturday’s Grade 2, $150,000 Gallant Bloom Handicap at Belmont Park.

Referred to for most of her 3-year-old season as the last horse to beat Rachel Alexandra – she did so in the Pocahontas at 2 at Churchill Downs – Sara Louise has not run since winning the Grade 2 Top Flight Handicap at Aqueduct on Nov. 27.

Pathfork headed to BC Juvenile

Ireland’s leading juvenile, Pathfork is headed to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. The winner of the seven-furlong, Group 1 Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh on Sept. 11, the unbeaten son of Distorted Humor will make his first start on dirt at Churchill Downs on Nov. 6 for his trainer, Jessica Harrington, for whom he has also won the Curragh’s seven-furlong Group 2 Futurity Stakes.

Japanese star arrives for Flower Bowl

The Japanese Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf hopeful Red Desire arrived at Aqueduct on Thursday to prepare for the Flower Bowl Invitational at Belmont Park on Oct. 2. Trained by Mikio Matsunaga, the 4-year-old daughter of the Sunday Silence stallion Manhattan Cafe will spend two days in quarantine at the Big A before transferring to Belmont on Saturday.

Gio Ponti headed for Shadwell Turf Mile

ELMONT, N.Y. - Gio Ponti will pass Sunday’s $1 million Woodbine Mile and will be trained up to the Grade 1, $600,000 Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland on Oct. 9, trainer Christophe Clement said Wednesday morning.

Clement said the Shadwell Mile will be used as a prep race for either the Breeders’ Cup Mile on turf or the Breeders’ Cup Classic, a dirt race run at 1 1/4 miles. Both races are run Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs. Gio Ponti, the runner-up to Zenyatta in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic run over Santa Anita’s Pro-Ride surface, has never run on dirt.

Bear's Future eyes Breeders' Cup Juvenile

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Bear’s Future, who displayed plenty of promise when romping to victory in his seven-furlong debut, passed his first acid test with an authoritative score here in Sunday’s $153,300 Swynford at the same distance.

And, if all proceeds according to plan, Bear’s Future’s future could include an appearance in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs on Nov. 6.
