Fame and Glory's Breeders' Cup participation in doubt

Fame and Glory may bypass the Breeders’ Cup Turf, Aidan O’Brien revealed on Friday. CIting the “hard race” the 4-year-old son of Montjeu had in finishing fifth in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on Oct. 3, O’Brien said it was “quite possible” that Fame and Glory, winner of the Coronation Cup and Tattersalls Gold Cup, would not travel to Churchill Downs, but that there is a chance that he would remain in training next year.

Zenyatta breezes easy

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Zenyatta was breathing easily when she walked off the Hollywood Park main track after breezing five furlongs in 1:02.60 on Thursday.

Jockey Mike Smith, sitting atop the undefeated winner of 19 races, beamed as he assessed the 6-year-old mare’s first workout since a win in the Grade Lady’s Secret Stakes on Oct. 2.

“I wanted to see her energy level and her action,” Smith said. “She was full of it. She did all the work in the last eighth. It was very handy.”

All of Evening Jewel's focus is on winning QE II Cup

LEXINGTON, Ky. – All of the prep races for the 2010 Breeders’ Cup are in the books. Well, almost all. The timing of the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, set for Saturday at Keeneland, might be cutting it a bit close, but if Evening Jewel runs like she has all year long, she will still be able to meet up in Louisville with all the other Breeders’ Cup prospects who had their final preps in the last few weeks.

Redwood back to claim Canadian International loot

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Redwood blew into town last month for the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Stakes, and ran like a favorite should, winning the 1 1/2-mile contest after a perfect trip. If he avoids a regressive “Euro-bounce” Saturday at Woodbine after shipping home to England and then back again in a four-week span, then he should be competitive in the 73rd running of the $2 million Canadian International.

Distance dictates Harlan's Ruby run in Juvenile Fillies

Trainer Ken McPeek wants to keep Harlan’s Ruby at 1 1/16 miles, so the filly who won her maiden on turf but ran second in last weekend’s Alcibiades on Polytrack at Keeneland will head to the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies rather than the Juvenile Fillies Turf.

“She needs the mile and a sixteenth,” McPeek said of the distance of the Juvenile Fillies.
