Joshua Tree tops Euro domination

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Those who revel in the success of our European visitors had plenty to celebrate following the three Grade 1 turf stakes here last Saturday.

The Canadian International, E.P. Taylor, and Nearctic attracted a total of 31 horses with no less than 15 hailing from across the pond.

The final toll was three wins, a second, and two thirds for the Europeans, with the home team accounting for the other three top-three finishes in Woodbine’s final Breeders’ Cup Win and You’re In races of the season.

To Honor and Serve points to Nashua

ELMONT, N.Y. – Thinking more long-term than short, trainer Bill Mott said Monday that his promising 2-year-old colt To Honor and Serve would skip the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Nov. 6 and instead run in the Grade 2, $150,000 Nashua Stakes at Aqueduct the same day.

Blind Luck drills for Ladies' Classic

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Blind Luck, winner of five graded stakes this year, worked five furlongs in 1:01.20 at Hollywood Park on Sunday for the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic on Nov. 5, a race in which she will be favored.

“She’s right on schedule,” trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said.

As Blind Luck walked off the track, Hollendorfer shouted to jockey Joel Rosario, who was aboard for the workout and was riding the filly on an incline toward the stables.

“What’s your opinion?” Hollendorfer said.

“Very good, easy,” Rosario said.

Miss Keller still aimed at Breeders' Cup

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Miss Keller, one of just two Woodbine-based entrants in the E.P. Taylor, tried her best to hold the fort but wound up a length back as the runner-up to France’s Reggane in Sunday’s Grade 1 filly and mare turf feature.

Miss Keller, trained by Roger Attfield, is owned by Three Chimneys Racing LLC and is headed for the 1 3/8-mile Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Churchill Downs.

Rigoletta will miss BC Juvenile Fillies with splint injury

INGLEWOOD, Calif .- Rigoletta, the winner of the Grade 1 Oak Leaf Stakes at Hollywood Park on Oct. 3, will miss the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5 because of a splint injury, trainer Dan Hendricks said on Sunday.

Rigoletta is expected to be sidelined until the winter-spring meeting at Santa Anita, Hendricks said.

Blame looks sharp in half-mile breeze for BC Classic

Blame, arguably the leading candidate for top older horse in North America, resumed his serious training for the Nov. 6 Breeders’ Cup Classic when he breezed a half-mile Sunday at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky.

With exercise rider Casey Chavez aboard, Blame went in 47.60 seconds over a Polytrack surface that has been playing fast. The work was the first for the 4-year-old Blame since he finished second as the 4-5 favorite in the Oct. 2 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park.

Reprized Halo pulls off 45-1 shocker in In Reality

MIAMI - Reprized Halo, the longest price on the board at 45-1, pulled off one of the biggest shockers in the long history of the Florida Stallion Stakes when he finished full of run under apprentice jockey Jose Alvarez to register a 1 1/2-length victory over Gourmet Dinner, foiling his bid  to sweep the open division of the Stallion series, in Saturday's In Reality Stakes at Calder.

Harmonious easy winner of QE II at Keeneland
