Repole's BC move sends right signal to the sport
Owner Mike Repole deserves all the credit in the world for his personal boycott of the Breeders' Cup this year ("Repole: No Lasix, no Breeders' Cup," Oct. 19) for many reasons, all of them valid.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Animal Kingdom is scheduled to have his final work for the Breeders’ Cup Mile on the Keeneland turf course next Friday morning, Oct. 26, after arriving here Monday from his longtime base, the Fair Hill training center in northern Maryland.
Trainer Graham Motion said Friday that Animal Kingdom, the 2011 Kentucky Derby winner, will then be flown out the following day, Oct. 27, on a Louisville charter to Southern California.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. − The rain was teeming down here on a dreary fall morning, bringing most activity to a halt on Saratoga’s Oklahoma training track Friday.
A mile or so away, it was business as usual at the Greentree training facility, where horses owned by Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley and Godolphin operations were going through their regular routine over the Polytrack surface.
Activity included workouts by three of Godolphin’s Grade 1 winners, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, who are pointing to Breeders’ Cup races in two weeks at Santa Anita.
ARCADIA, Calif. – Despite finishing last in her most recent start, Reneesgotzip remains under consideration for the Breeders’ Cup, trainer Peter Miller said Thursday. A 3-year-old filly, Reneesgotzip finished last of seven against males in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship on Oct. 6.
“We’re probably going to nominate to the Filly and Mare Sprint, and possibly the Turf Sprint,” Miller said. “We could run in either one of those, or neither.”
The intrigue of the Breeders’ Cup lies in its variety, in its heady mix of ownerships, jockey styles, breeding pools, and geographic identities. However, nothing stimulates conversation more than the hubris of a Thoroughbred trainer trying to pull off a mini-miracle on the national stage.
My Happy Face, a stubborn second to Dreaming of Julia in the Grade 1 Frizette at Belmont Park on Oct. 6, will not run in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita on Nov. 2, owner Michael Dubb confirmed Friday.
Instead, My Happy Face will make her next start in the Grade 3, $150,000 Tempted Stakes at Aqueduct on Nov. 4.
Ridasiyna, winner of the Group 1 Prix de l’Opera at Longchamp Oct. 7, is expected to make her next start in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf Nov. 2, according to Adrian Beaumont of the International Racing Bureau.
Owned by The Aga Khan, Ridasiyna earned an expense-paid Breeders’ Cup berth in taking the Prix de l’Opera, a Win and You’re In challenge race. She was not immediately committed to the Filly and Mare Turf, however, as her connections considered other races, including the Japan Cup.
ELMONT, N.Y. - After giving Carried Interest a strong gallop at Aqueduct on Thursday morning, trainer Rick Violette said he still has not yet decided where Carried Interest, runner-up in the Futurity at Belmont, would make his next start.
His options are the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint at Santa Anita on Nov. 2 or the Grade 2, $200,000 Nashua at Aqueduct on Nov. 4.

Next week handicappers everywhere will be poring over the Breeders’ Cup pre-entries and early past performances, forming opinions and starting to build cases for horses they like.
I don’t feel like waiting. Having already perused past performances and race videos of many leading contenders, here are some of my thoughts on some of the Breeders’ Cup races with just two weeks to go before the two big days on Nov. 2-3.
