In her two career starts, My Conquestadory has beaten males in the Grade 2 Summer Stakes and won the Grade 1 Alcibiades (above).

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Mark Casse said My Conquestadory, the flashy winner of the Darley Alcibiades Stakes on the opening-day program Friday at Keeneland, will train on dirt for the first time this week as he considers the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies for the unbeaten filly.

Keeneland: Alcibiades becomes second straight graded win for My Conquestadory

My Conquestadory could be headed to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf after winning the Alcibiades.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Two career starts. One Grade 2 win. And now a Grade 1 win on top of that.

That’s quite a remarkable start to the racing career of My Conquestadory, who became a major contender for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on Friday when overcoming trouble to post a 1 3/4-length victory in the Grade 1, $400,000 Alcibiades Stakes, the feature race on opening day of the 17-day Keeneland fall meet.

Keeneland: Sum of the Parts repeats in Phoenix

Sum of the Parts, ridden by Leandro Goncalves, wins the Grade 3 Phoenix at Keeneland - his first victory since last year's Phoenix.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Tom Amoss has often called Sum of the Parts “the fastest horse from the gate” that he’s ever trained in his 26-year career. But that only means something when Sum of the Parts carries that speed to the wire, which is exactly what the Speightstown colt did Friday in repeating as champion in the 161st running of the Grade 3, $200,000 Phoenix Stakes on opening day of the 17-day Keeneland fall meet.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe: Orfevre has chance to make amends

APRH Photo
Orfevre enters Sunday's Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp off a win in the Group 2 Prix Foy.

If Orfevre were a professional athlete of the human rather than equine variety, a full year of dark brooding would be ending Sunday. It was one year ago that Orfevre reached out and took firm hold of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, one of the world’s great races, only to let the Arc slip away for no good reason with yards to go.

Jay Hovdey: Arc winners are like fallen souffle in BC Turf

All Along, shown winning the 1983 D.C. International, won that year's Arc and then came back the following year to finish a close second in the inaugural Breeders' Cup Turf.

There are any number of ways to irritate a Parisian you might encounter sipping an espresso and smoking a Gauloise in a boulevard café. Use the wrong fork. Order in English. Say anything in English. Misquote Sartre. Mock Jerry Lewis.

But if you really want to watch their Gallic blood boil (in Celsius, no less), try suggesting that the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, first run in 1920, is just another prep race for the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

Santa Anita notes: Declassify to run in allowance instead of Sprint Championship

Shigeki Kikkawa
Declassify, unbeaten in two starts, will run in an allowance Sunday at Santa Anita.

ARCADIA, Calif. – The stakes debut of the unbeaten 3-year-old Declassify will have to wait for another weekend.

On Friday, trainer Bob Baffert scratched Declassify from Saturday’s $250,000 Santa Anita Sprint Championship in favor of a start in a $54,000 allowance race Sunday over six furlongs. Baffert said the easier allowance race had greater appeal than the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship.

Santa Anita: Zuma Beach favorite Diamond Bachelor could switch from turf to dirt for Breeders' Cup

Benoit & Associates
Diamond Bachelor wins the $100,000 Oak Tree Juvenile Turf at Del Mar.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Diamond Bachelor was never a secret – not in either of his two starts, nor when he was an expensive purchase at a 2-year-olds in training sale.

“Everybody knew he was one of three best horses at the sale, and the price reflected what people were thinking,” trainer Patrick Biancone said.

Fortunately, Diamond Bachelor delivered on the hype.

Mid-South notes: Dominguez mulling over where to run Wine Police

Dustin Orona Photography
Wine Police is under consideration for several upcoming races, including the Breeders' Cup Sprint.

The Breeders’ Cup Sprint is one of a handful of options the connections of Wine Police are mulling over following his win in last weekend’s $150,000 Remington Park Sprint Cup. Wine Police is back at his Zia Park base in Hobbs, N.M., with races in Louisiana, New York, and Pennsylvania also on his radar, trainer Henry Dominguez said Friday.

“The Breeders’ Cup is a consideration,” he said. “We have a lot of spots we can go to and haven’t made a definite decision. We’ll come up with a plan in the next week or so.”

Keeneland: Emollient can complete rare double in Spinster

Barbara D. Livingston
Emollient is the only 3-year-old in the 11-horse Spinster field.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The day Emollient freaked in the Ashland Stakes, she did it from the far outside. Mike Smith sent her to the lead from post 13 and that was it. A nine-length victory in a Grade 1 rarely has been done so easily.
