Bling On the Music will soon take her show to Churchill Downs.

The undefeated filly is being pointed to the Grade 2 Pocahontas after her 13-length romp over male rivals in the $100,000 Gold Rush Futurity last Saturday at Arapahoe Park.

“She earned a shot with that,” said J.R. Caldwell, who trains Bling On the Music for Keene Thoroughbreds.

The Pocahontas, a 1 1/16-mile race on Sept. 17, is a Win and You’re In for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.

DEL MAR, Calif. – The private acquisition of Express Himself by owners Pete and Kosta Hronis and trainer John Sadler in July may have occurred at the perfect time.

Is unbeaten Argentine filly Sobradora Inc good enough for Breeders' Cup?

Sobradora Inc, unbeaten in four starts in Argentina in 2015, will make her American debut in Sunday’s $75,000 Osunitas Stakes for fillies and mares at Del Mar. The minor stakes could put Sobradora Inc on course for the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita in November.

The 4-year-old Sobradora Inc has won three stakes, including consecutive Group 1 races at 1 1/4 miles on turf in Argentina last November and December. She has not raced this year.

Alsvid will prep for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint inthe Eddie D. Stakes on opening day of Santa Anita's fall meet.

DEL MAR, Calif. – A downhill turf sprint at Santa Anita is the next start for Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint candidate Alsvid, third behind Lord Nelson in the Grade 1 Bing Crosby on July 31 at Del Mar.

Trainer Chris Hartman said Thursday that Alsvid will start in the Grade 3 Eddie D. Stakes on Sept. 30, opening day of the Santa Anita fall meet. “That’s the plan,” Hartman said. “The only races he’s run on turf were five furlongs; he needs a little more distance.”

The Eddie D. is 6 1/2 furlongs, a distance Hartman believes “should hit him right in the grill.”

Wavell Avenue snaps 2016 winless streak in Shine Again

Barbara D. Livingston
Wavell Avenue, ridden by Joel Rosaro, wins the Shine Again Stakes by 1 3/4 lengths.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The connections of Wavell Avenue are hoping that by taking a step back this summer it will help their 5-year-old mare take a leap forward in the fall.

The first part of the plan was executed perfectly as Wavell Avenue, last year’s Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint winner, took advantage of a ground-saving trip and a fast pace to win Wednesday’s $100,000 Shine Again Stakes by 1 3/4 lengths at Saratoga.

Stellar Wind stays on schedule, Beholder now uncertain for Pacific Classic

Emily Shields
Stellar Wind (left), in her stretch drive win over Beholder, will have just one more race before the Breeders' Cup Distaff this fall.

DEL MAR, Calif. – The plans for Stellar Wind for the late summer and fall had been set in stone even before she defeated Beholder in the Grade 1 Clement Hirsch Stakes on Saturday, but the loss by Beholder may alter her near-term schedule, putting in jeopardy a title defense against males in Del Mar’s biggest race of the summer, the Grade 1, $1 million Pacific Classic on Aug. 20.

Stellar Wind has had the Breeders’ Cup Distaff on Nov. 4 at Santa Anita as her year-end goal, and she’ll race just once before that, in the Grade 1 Zenyatta at Santa Anita on Oct. 1.

Stellar Wind knocks off Beholder in Clement Hirsch

Emily Shields
Stellar Wind, ridden by Victor Espinoza, gives trainer John Sadler a perfect 60th birthday present with a half-length win over Beholder in the Clement Hirsch Stakes.

DEL MAR, Calif. – Usually the ocean breeze off the nearby Pacific is quite calm, but on Saturday at Del Mar a mighty wind blew in and re-arranged the pre-conceived order of the older female division. In a battle of two Eclipse Award winners, Stellar Wind outbattled the great Beholder by a half-length in the Grade 1, $300,000 Clement Hirsch Stakes, the championship race of the meet for older fillies and mares.

Subtle Indian dominates the Grade 3 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap by 3 3/4 lengths under Ramon Vazquez.

DEL MAR, Calif. – The Breeders’ Cup is three months and 100 miles away, which is not too soon, nor too far away, to start dreaming about it on Sunday at Del Mar.

“Right now, it’s okay to dream in Technicolor,” trainer Bob Baffert said. “When we go to write that check for the [Breeders’ Cup] pre-entry, then we dream in black and white. That’s the difference.”
