LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Jaywalk emerged from her emphatic victory Friday  in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs in good shape and is scheduled to ship Sunday to her winter base, the Palm Meadows training center in south Florida, where the Cross Traffic filly eventually will resume training in her role as the early favorite for the 145th Kentucky Oaks.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Handle on the five Breeders’ Cup races held on a revamped Friday card at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., was $38.1 million, according to charts of the races, up 21 percent over the handle on four Breeders’ Cup races on the Friday card last year at Del Mar in Southern California.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Though trainer Bob Baffert came to Kentucky with major contenders in the $6 million Classic and $2 million Distaff, it was Game Winner – the 2-year-old colt brought for the $2 million Juvenile – he thought was his best chance to win a Breeders’ Cup race this weekend.

“People would ask me who my best chance is,” Baffert said. “I’d say him.”

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – John Servis was grinning ear-to-ear at Churchill Downs – just like when he was enjoying a couple of other victories that have come to define a lifetime of training racehorses.

Servis had just sent out Jaywalk to a dominant performance Friday in the 35th running of the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, giving the 60-year-old trainer a triumph under the twin spires of a significance exceeded only by Smarty Jones winning the 2004 Kentucky Derby and Cathryn Sophia capturing the 2016 Kentucky Oaks.
