Artislas has Freedom's Not Free to deal with in Cinema Stakes

Freedom’s Not Free is coming off a two-length win in the one-mile Pasadena at Santa Anita.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Sprint-to-route is the handicapping theme in one-mile races Sunday at Santa Anita – the $100,000 Cinema Stakes for 3-year-olds on turf and an entry-level dirt allowance that includes the most probable winner on the card.

Artislas stretches out in the Cinema, race 7. A multiple stakes winner last season, Artislas figures to improve off his third-place sprint comeback. Self Sufficient, third in a fast sprint, stretches out as likely favorite in race 8. He should be long gone.

Weekend GamePlan: Picks for the Take the A Train, Siren Lure, Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies

Annascaul wins debut at SAR Aug 14 2025
Barbara D. Livingston
Annascaul hinted at her ability in three starts as a 2-year-old. She begins her 2025 campaign in the Take the A Train at Aqueduct on Saturday.

Well, that was fun. But a week after a Breeders’ Cup-like festival at Churchill Downs, punctuated by the 1 1/4-mile Kentucky Derby, we’re looking this Saturday at a bevy of turf sprints, five of them across the land.

Take the A Train

This six-furlong grass dash for sophomore fillies looked most playable among the New York stakes. To me, the Beyers overstate the case for two horses who last ran at Fair Grounds, Lovely Emma, the major pace, and Hello Bertie, a closing threat.

Biancone well-represented in both divisions of the Royal Palm

Satisfied Mind wins debut at KEE April 16 2025

Satisfied Mind comes into the Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies off an authoritative debut win at Keeneland for Wesley Ward.

A pair of $100,000 stakes races at Gulfstream Park on Saturday will provide American-based runners with a rare international opportunity. In one of the most unique arrangements in American racing, the winners of both races in Florida earn automatic berths in one of six juvenile stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

The Royal Palm Juvenile and Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies, both five-furlong turf sprints, are strange and exciting in equal measure, featuring large groups of unproven runners competing under major implications at the earliest point in their careers.
