Zoomin for Spuds heads field for Wild West Futurity
Zoomin for Spuds, who raced at Les Bois Park in Idaho and Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico earlier this year, is the fastest qualifier for Sunday’s $126,150 Wild West Futurity at Los Alamitos.
The race is restricted to 2-year-olds who started at least twice earlier this year at tracks in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, or in Canada.
Zoomin for Spuds ran 350 yards in 17.58 seconds in time trials on Oct. 4, his first win in his seventh start for owner Jim Walker. Bret Vickery trains Zoomin For Spuds.
Vickery’s father, Donald, has a contender in Fames Jess Sweet, winner of the Idaho Cup Futurity at Les Bois Park on Aug. 7. There will be support for trial race winner Bo Dash Back, who races for Johnny Trotter, who served a one-year term as American Quarter Horse Racing Association president in 2014.
