Zeta Zody wins Bob Barry Memorial
Zeta Zody overtook pacesetter and favorite More Than Even in the stretch to win her third straight race in Friday night’s $50,000 Bob Barry Memorial at Remington Park. She won by 1 3/4 lengths, while More Than Even held second by three-quarters of a length over Harpers Princess.
The Barry Memorial was a 7 1/2-furlong turf race for fillies and mares bred in Oklahoma.
Zeta Zody ($7.80) settled off the pace set by More Than Even, who took her rivals through an opening six furlongs in 1:13.08. Zeta Zody angled out into the stretch and closed with good energy to cover the distance on a course rated firm in 1:30.81.
“When I asked her, she just exploded,” said winning rider Alex Birzer. “She’s pretty push-button. You just sit there and idle along, and when you ask her, she just goes.”
Michael Biehler trains Zeta Zody for Al and Bill Ulwelling. She began her winning streak in a $16,000 claiming race at Canterbury Park and proceeded to win a Remington allowance before nailing down her first stakes win in the Bob Barry.
Zeta Zody is a 4-year-old by Omega Code and was bred by Robert H. Zoellner. She has won six of 16 starts and $117,572.
