Zenyatta in foal to Into Mischief for 2018

Barbara D. Livingston Zenyatta has been confirmed in foal to Into Mischief.

Hall of Famer Zenyatta is in foal to Grade 1 winner Into Mischief for the 2018 foaling season.

The 13-year-old Street Cry mare was covered June 3 to produce what would be her sixth foal. She delivered a Medaglia d’Oro filly on May 9.

“Dottie [Ingordo, racing manager for owners Jerry and Ann Moss] picked the horse, and it seems like he’s become pretty important along the way,” Jerry Moss said. “The filly came out fine, a little earlier than expected. We thought we were going to give her a year off and get her a little earlier next time, but we decided to try her once, and if it happened, we’d go with it, and if it didn’t, it didn’t, and it took.”

Into Mischief, a 12-year-old son of Harlan’s Holiday, stands at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, Ky., for an advertised fee of $75,000.

He has six crops of racing age, led by Canadian champions Miss Mischief and Conquest Enforcer; two-time Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Goldencents; Grade 1 winner Practical Joke; Grade 2 winners Vyjack and Vicar’s in Trouble; and Grade 3 winners Can the Man and One Liner.

Into Mischief won three of six starts during his ontrack career for $597,080, including victories in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity at age 2 and the listed Damascus Stakes at 3.

He is out of 2016 Broodmare of the Year Leslie’s Lady and is a half-brother to four-time Eclipse Award winner Beholder.

“I think Into Mischief’s shown he works with a variety of bloodlines,” said Spendthrift general manager Ned Toffey. “They’re really tough mentally, but not to the point that they work against themselves. They’re smart, they’re tough, they’re tenacious, and I think that works with just about anything.”

Zenyatta is still seeking her first winner as a broodmare from her first two starters. Her first foal, the Bernardini colt Cozmic One, returns Sunday after a two-year absence in a maiden race on turf at Del Mar.
