Zelda Can Dance outran her 21-1 odds back in October, when closing for second in the $100,000 My Trusty Cat at Delta Downs. She will make her first start since then Friday night and figures to be a much shorter price in the track’s $75,000 By the Light.

The By the Light, a seven-furlong race run around two turns, is for 3-year-old fillies. Others making up the eight-horse field include Casual Class, fourth in the My Trusty Cat; Cool Song, who invades from Fair Grounds; and the stakes-placed Z Smoke.

KEY CONTENDERS

Zelda Can Dance (Last 3 Beyers: 58-55-57)

She rallied from last to finish second to the front-running winner Vivian Da Bling in the My Trusty Cat in her last start Oct. 24. The race was the first in two months for Zelda Can Dance.

Zelda Can Dance brings good two-turn experience to the table. All three of her starts have come at the trip, with her debut a 12-length romp in a $25,000 maiden claimer at a mile at Evangeline Downs on Aug. 20.

The high-percentage Diego Saenz has the mount for trainer Joey Foster.

Zelda Can Dance, a daughter of Pleasantly Perfect, will break from post 6.

Casual Class (Last 3 Beyers: 55-55-52)

She has a recency edge on Zelda Can Dance as she last raced Dec. 23 and won a first-level allowance around two turns at Delta.

Casual Class was stakes-placed two races ago when second in the $150,000 Louisiana Jewel on the Delta Downs Jackpot undercard Nov. 22.

Donnie Meche has the mount for trainer Jorge Lara.

Cool Song (Last 2 Beyers: 71-45)

She owns the field’s best last-race Beyer Speed Figure, for her third-place finish in a first-level allowance sprint at Fair Grounds on Nov. 28.

Cool Song will be making her two-turn debut and could get an ideal tracking trip behind Royal Song Dancer.

Gerard Melancon has the mount for trainer Tom Amoss.
