Zayas has edge in rider standings as spring meet nears end

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Edgard Zayas holds a 64-56 advantage over Emisael Jaramillo in the jockey standings, while Saffie Joseph Jr. maintains a comfortable 20-14 edge over both Ralph Nicks and Antonio Sano in the trainer standings heading into the final four days of Gulfstream Park’s 2019 spring meet, which ends Sunday.
Jaramillo might have been able to shave a little more off Zayas’s lead had he not spent the weekend at Monmouth Park, where he won three races on Saturday and two more on Sunday’s card.
Zayas and Jaramillo will square off in several races when racing resumes on Thursday, including the featured eighth event, a $47,000 optional-claiming test at 1 1/16 miles over the main track. Zayas will ride Vincero for Joseph, while Jaramillo counters with the Oscar Gonzalez trained Aequor. Both will be prominent players in the main event, along with Gray Beau, Winking At Thedude, and Baby I’m Perfect.
The headliner will be the fourth leg in a Rainbow 6 sequence that will feature a jackpot in excess of $3 million. There will be a mandatory payout of the entire Rainbow 6 pool on Sunday.
