Zarb's Luck cuts back at Delta
Zarb's Luck, who won the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Sprint at Fair Grounds in December, runs Sunday night in the $50,000 Cajun Express at Delta Downs in Vinton, La. The one-turn, five-furlong race is for statebreds.
Zarb's Luck raced at two turns in his last race. He was a close third after setting most of the pace at a mile in the $150,000 Gold Cup at Delta. Guy Smith rides for trainer Edward Johnston.
* Evangeline Downs near Lafayette, La., will host its first 2-year-olds in training sale on Sunday. A total of 54 horses have been cataloged. Horses that go through the sale will be eligible for the $75,000-estimated Evangeline Sales Stakes on Aug. 2.
* Jockey Ronald Ardoin, who hit his right wrist on the starting gate before the seventh race last Friday, will be out two weeks with a deep bruise and will return at Lone Star Park, according to his agent, Shawn Bergquist.
* A bill that would enable Texas tracks to operate video lottery terminals has been filed in the state Senate, according to the Texas Horsemen's Partnership.
* Floor plans for Louisiana Downs's slots casino are to be considered during a Louisiana Gaming Control Board meeting Tuesday.
