Zany, who is among the early Kentucky Oaks favorites, is among a field of seven 3-year-old fillies entered Monday for the Grade 1, $750,000 Ashland Stakes, Friday's opening-day feature at Keeneland. The Ashland, the first of five Grade 1 races at the Keeneland meet that runs through April 24, awards points for the May 1 Kentucky Oaks on a 100-50-25-15-10 scale to the first five finishers. Zany, trained by Todd Pletcher for Repole Stable, has won all three of her career starts. On the strength of that, she was the 4-1 favorite when the lone Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool closed on March 15. The filly won the Grade 2 Demoiselle last fall in New York and, in her lone start thus far in 2026, took the Suncoast on Feb. 7 at Tampa. She was flattered when runner-up Life of Joy recently won the Grade 2 Fair Grounds Oaks. Percy's Bar, who showed herself to be of Grade 1 caliber last year for Ben Colebrook, has been working strongly for her 3-year-old debut at her Keeneland base. The filly crossed the line first in the Grade 1 Alcibiades here last October but was disqualified to second. She was then third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.  From the rail out, the field for the Ashland is Nycon, Percy’s Bar, Zany, French Friction, Omaha Bay, Hollybygolly, and Star Actress.  The Ashland is the highlight of four stakes on Keeneland's opening day. The card includes a pair of seven-furlong dirt events for 3-year-olds in the Grade 2, $400,000 Beaumont for fillies and the $400,000 Lafayette. There's also the Grade 3, $300,000 Transylvania for turf sophomores. Turf conditions and usage will be of concern on opening weekend. There is rain forecast for Wednesday and Friday in Lexington, although temperatures will remain in the 70s.
