Zany to be cross-entered at Saratoga and Monmouth

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Zany has not run since she finished sixth as the lukewarm 5-1 favorite in the Kentucky Oaks on May 1. She will return to the races this weekend, it’s just not entirely certain where.
On Sunday, Zany was one of nine entered in the Grade 1, $500,000 Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga. That field includes Kentucky Oaks winner Always a Runner and Grade 1 Acorn winner Counting Stars.
On Tuesday, trainer Todd Pletcher was planning to enter Zany in Saturday’s Grade 3, $150,000 Monmouth Oaks, a race to which there are no Grade 1 winners nominated.
Pletcher said owner Mike Repole will decide in which race Zany will run. Wherever she starts, Zany will be equipped with blinkers for the first time.
Zany began her career with three straight wins, including an eye-catching 8 1/2-length victory in last December’s Grade 2 Demoiselle at Aqueduct. Prior to the Kentucky Oaks this year, Zany won the Suncoast at Tampa Bay Downs and was second in the Grade 1 Ashland at Keeneland.
