ELMONT, N.Y. – Sunday marks the end of racing at Belmont Park for the year – but it marks the beginning of the 3-year-old season for the Grade 1 stakes-placed, New York-bred filly You’re My Girl. You’re My Girl heads a field of nine females entered in a first-level New York-bred allowance scheduled for six furlongs on the main track that is the co-feature on a stakes-less nine-race card that begins at 12:30 p.m. Following Sunday’s 38th card of a 40-day scheduled meet, racing on this circuit moves upstate to Saratoga beginning Thursday. When Saratoga ends on Labor Day, racing moves to Aqueduct for the subsequent nine months as renovation projects continue at Belmont Park. You’re My Girl made a smashing debut last September at Saratoga, winning a New York-bred maiden race by 14 1/2 lengths. In October, she finished second to Chocolate Gelato in the Grade 1 Frizette at Aqueduct, before ending her 2-year-old season with a fifth-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Keeneland. :: Get Belmont Park Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team. Available every race day. Trainer John Terranova had picked out the Beaumont in April at Keeneland for You’re My Girl’s 3-year-old debut, and had five works in her at Tampa Bay Downs for that race. But the filly got a virus that forced her to miss that race and thereafter some training. She spent a week or so at Hidden Brook Farm in Ocala, Fla., before moving on to Keeneland for a while. After two months away from the work tab, You’re My Girl began breezing May 26 at Belmont and has five published works – plus one unpublished work because it was done in the fog – leading to her return. “She looks ready to go, hoping for a good race and keep moving forward into the summer and see where she takes us,” Terranova said. “Everything in the morning on our end is looking great.” Joel Rosario, aboard for You’re My Girl’s first two starts in 2022, is back aboard for her return to the races. Athena Beach has won all four of her starts against open company at Penn National. She is a half-sister to Kaz’s Beach, who won here in 2021 and a full sister to Beach Banker who finished third at 52-1 in the 2022 Bouwerie Stakes. Athena Beach looms the potential speed of the field breaking from the outside post. Tosconova Beauty is a six-time winner, all those wins coming for lesser money at Finger Lakes, which is why she is eligible for this condition at Belmont. She finished third, beaten 12 1/2 lengths, in this condition going seven furlongs on June 15. Miss Stones, a debut winner in April at Aqueduct, finished third in her first try at this condition. She breaks from the rail under Javier Castellano. Disruption, who went 1 for 4 last year, makes her 3-year-old debut for Chad Brown in this spot. Majestic Return, Towering Gaze, I’mhavingamoment, and Fancy Feline complete the field. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
