Yorkiepoo Princess will try nine furlongs in Gazelle

Yorkiepoo Princess, who aced her two-turn debut with a 1 1/4-length victory in Saturday’s $150,000 Busher Stakes, will attempt 1 1/8 miles in the Grade 2, $300,000 Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct on April 8, trainer Ed Barker said Monday.
Barker said Yorkiepoo Princess came out of the Busher “a little bit tired, but no bumps, no bruises” and noted that she will have six weeks between races.
“That’s perfect,” Barker said.
Barker said he doesn’t think Yorkiepoo Princess, a daughter of Kantharos, will have a problem with an extra sixteenth of a mile in the Gazelle. She started to loaf a bit when she made the lead in the Busher, but jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. told Barker he had a lot of horse.
“I don’t know if the breeding says she’ll go that far,” Barker said. “But she likes to win. I’m sure it’ll be a big step up for her.”
Yorkiepoo Princess earned 50 qualifying points toward the May 5 Kentucky Oaks with her Busher victory. She was not nominated to the Oaks by the first deadline Feb. 18. There is a second deadline April 12, at which time a $1,500 nomination fee would be due. Barker said owner Danny Chen would wait until after the Gazelle to decide whether to nominate.
Yorkiepoo Princess earned just a 73 Beyer Speed Figure for the Busher, in which she ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:47.65.
◗ Send It In, the winner of the Alex M. Robb and Haynesfield stakes for New York-breds in his two most recent starts, worked a half-mile Sunday in 49.26 seconds over Belmont Park’s training track. He is pointing to the $125,000 Stymie Stakes on March 12.
