OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer Ed Barker believes Saturday’s $150,000 Busher Stakes at Aqueduct will be the best opportunity to prove that the sprint-stakes-winning 3-year-old filly Yorkiepoo Princess can be effective around two turns. “She loves this track, she’s won over it, she trains over it,” Barker said. “We got a good post, we got the best rider. All we need is to have the best horse again.” Yorkiepoo Princess, the only stakes winner in the field of 10, breaks from post 3 under Irad Ortiz Jr., who is 3 for 3 on the filly, including a 7 1/2-length victory in the Ruthless Stakes going six furlongs over the inner track Jan. 14. Three of the fillies Yorkiepoo Princess defeated that day are back in the Busher, contested at 1 1/16 miles. Yorkiepoo Princess did win a maiden $62,500 claiming race by 12 1/4 lengths going a one-turn mile at Belmont last October. But that race was originally scheduled for turf and only went with four horses. In preparation for this two-turn race, Barker has started Yorkiepoo Princess’s last two works at the finish line so that she would relax going into the first turn. Barker said that after a recent work, jockey Rosario Montanez told him, “She’ll run a distance of ground with her eyes closed.” Eight of the 10 runners in the Busher field remain eligible for a first-level allowance. Full House and Spanish Harlem are both coming off maiden wins going two turns over the inner track. The Busher offers 85 qualifying points (50-20-10-5) toward the May 5 Kentucky Oaks. Busher, Race 8 KEY CONTENDERS Full House, by Discreetly Mine Last 3 Beyers: 82-68-61 ◗ After a pair of third-place finishes sprinting to begin her career, she was visually impressive in rolling to a 13 3/4-length victory going a two-turn mile here Feb. 4. “It looked impressive, but we take that win with a grain of salt,” trainer Jimmy Jerkens said. “She drew the rail, and it was a weak field, but we couldn’t have been any happier with how she did it, that’s for sure.” ◗ Jerkens believes that if some of the sprinters stretching out show more speed than Full House, his filly can rate under Rajiv Maragh. Tiz Rude, by Tiznow Last 3 Beyers: 73-46-67 ◗ Stalked a slow pace and won a two-turn maiden race at Parx on Jan. 16, a race from which runner-up Thistforthecup came back to win. She is also entered in here. Formulator Fact: Barker is only 2 for 30 over the last five years when going sprint to route. Spanish Harlem, by More Than Ready Last 2 Beyers: 71-64 ◗ One of the few proven around two turns, with a solid second on turf in her debut in December, followed by an off-the pace maiden win over the inner track Jan. 15. “My filly is going to be a stakes horse on the grass, but she showed she could dirt,” trainer Danny Gargan said. “I think she’s going to run a big race.”
