MEET STATS: 142 - 382 / $704.90 (-$59.10)
BEST BETS: 16 - 34 / $47.50 (-$20.50)
SPOT PLAYS: 8 - 34 / $41.40 (-$26.60)
BEST BET-
BONTZ N (11th)
SPOT PLAY-GORDY AGAIN (9th)
Race 1 - 12500CLM Pace
(6) LYONS WILLIAM went two speed-and-fade efforts over at the Meadowlands and gives Yonkers a try as Bartlett's choice of three. (2) STEVE SAID should be a drop-and-pop candidate in this spot, plunging out of the $20,000 claimers. (3) LET'S FOAL AROUND was second to a well-meant winner last Tuesday and catches a wide-open group here.
Race 2 - Excelsior "A" Series 2YO C&G Pace
(4) AMERIORE hasn't gone a bad race yet against the Excelsior A group and Bartlett drives again after getting to know him at Batavia. (2) VERACIOUS was post-compromised with a six-hole at Batavia but draws much better tonight after closing to get third. (6) LEVINE has the outside post but is another one who has performed well in the Excelsior A Series. Good rallying second here at Yonkers back on June 20.
Race 3 - Excelsior "A" Series 2YO C&G Pace
(3) MAJOR ON THE BEACH retreats out of the top-level sire stakes to the Excelsior "A" Series, and maybe that will get him on the right track. (1) SURREAL SERGEANT gets a good post to work with tonight after some outside draws of late. Has winning experience over the Yonkers oval. (5) IDEAL PERCEPTION also slides down to the Excelsior A Series after a couple of tries against the sire stakes rookies.
Race 4 - New York Sire Stakes 2YO C&G Pace
(3) SAVE ME A DANCE really threw a clunker at Saratoga, but he's raced well locally, including a win in a Sheppard elimination, and Bartlett stays aboard. (2) OREO DREAM XTREME couldn't hold sway after leading at Batavia but did keep second. Has been no worse than fourth in his sire stakes tries thus far and drew the rail spot tonight. (1A) SPLASH BROTHER has been a bit disappointing in his pari-mutuel tries after two excellent baby races at the Meadowlands, but he gets a new set of hands in Brent Holland tonight, and maybe he can move him forward.
Race 5 - F&M NW5000L5/12500CLM Pace
(1) TYRONBETTORSELLA N has class and post relief tonight as she searches for a winning spot. Beat NW10000L5's back on May 23rd, so she can definitely handle these if she comes with a top effort. (2) BETTERTHANBRIE seems to be putting forth a better race every other start right now, so if that pattern holds tonight, she will be dangerous. (4) BOOGIE ROLL is another one in search of the right class. Has faced the top-level New York Sire Stakes fillies this season, so this has the potential to be her wake-up call.
Race 6 - Excelsior "A" Series 2YO C&G Pace
(3 MAJOR ASSET moves inside on the gate after being saddled with post six at Batavia. Won from the pocket in Westchester against Excelsior "A" Series on 6-20 and could be in line for the same trip tonight. (2) I ROLLED THE DICE has hit the board in all five starts so far and rolled to an easy win at Batavia. Should be the one to beat. (4) LATIN KING is the other one in this race in good form, but he looks like a notch below the top two.
Race 7 - 20000CLM Pace - $10K GTD Pick 5
(5) ABNER THE GREAT never got involved from an outside post last time, but post five gives Bongiorno some additional options tonight, and this barn is always capable. (2) TRIPLE SEELSTER went right down the road to win back on July 26 and moves from post four to post two tonight. Might look to wire them again. (3) MOM'S CROSSROADS was third in a quick mile for this class on July 27. Siegelman takes over the driving assignment.
Race 8 - NW10000L5/20000CLM Trot
(1) ZAGSTER appears to have aimed a little high on the class ladder in his last couple out of town, but this is a much more realistic spot tonight. Any repeat of those miles from June or early July would make him tough to catch. (5) KING CAST had no shot from post eight on July 30 but draws a mid-pack slot here. Was favored at this level on July 9 and was second. (3) SIMPLY VOLO rallied from way out of it to defeat NW5000L5's in his most recent race. Steps up tonight and loses Sears, but that was an eye-catching effort on 7-29.
Race 9 - F&M NW5000L5/12500CLM Pace
(2) GORDY AGAIN stopped in her first start for Banca on July 23, but he's had a little time to work on her since then, and Bartlett hops in the bike tonight. Might be some value here in a pretty wide-open event. (1) MY RONA GOLD N showed some late interest after starting from post six on July 25. Slides to the pole position for this try and could be more forwardly-placed. (5) SHEER TALENT finished second to the classy Sell A Bit N in her last start. Seems to be an easier group tonight.
Race 10 - NW5000L5 Pace
(5) ALWAYS A SHARK makes his second start for Bongiorno tonight. Good enough second in his debut for the stable down at Harrah's Philadelphia, and I'll go with him. (2) ART SCENE drops down a notch and has major post relief, going from the eight-hole to the two-hole in his second appearance for Banca. Definitely a threat. (1) HERE COMES WILLIAM has been knocking on the door out of town and gives Yonkers a try tonight. Those are some hard-knocking horses he's been meeting up with in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Race 11 - F&M NW10000L5/20000CLM Pace
(4) BONTZ N lands in what looks like a good spot here to win, sliding down from the NW20000L5 group to the NW10000L5's. Nothing wrong with her performance two back here at Yonkers, and she gets away from post eight tonight. (6) LK'S NANCY LEE turned in another solid effort last Tuesday night, and she owns enough speed to get a good position even though she switches to an outside post. (1) WESTERN STEPP found deep water last time against the likes of Youaremycandygirl, but all her other races look like she should fit here, including a second in the open at Saratoga.
Race 12 - NW10000L5 Pace
(6) CHUMLEE A stays at Yonkers and at this level after closing to get third on July 27. Draws a similar post, and hopefully he gets some pace and a clean trip. (3) THE LUNCH PAIL returns to Westchester tonight after a couple of efforts out of town. This is usually the class he is most competitive at. (2) CINNAMACK has been threatening on the fringes since shipping east back in June but hasn't delivered the knockout punch yet. Good post tonight if Dube wants to take a shot and fire him out.
