2019 STATS: 533 - 1367 / $2,486.90 (-$247.10)
BEST BETS: 64 - 117 / $204.70 (-$29.30)
Best Bet: FINNICK ODAIR (9th)
Spot Play: BETTOR SPIRITS N (7th)
Race 1 - $12,500 Claiming
(1) BEYONDTHESILENCE N was used a bit in the early stages securing good position from the outside post and came up flat late, his first subpar effort in ages. Tritton trainee can redeem himself going down the road tonight. (2) VEGAS ROCKS, a former $40K claimer, has clearly found a home at this bottom level and the Allard trainee looks for three straight. (6) REDONKULOUS returns from a good effort at Philly and has taken his last two local races; sharp short will still be a good price with the tough top two inside of him. (8) BIG TURN ON is a great fit at this level but this is a really tough spot; maybe Bartlett can sneak onto the bottom of the ticket.
Race 2 – NW7500 in last 5 starts
(5) SHOWMEYOURGUNS is back in fighting form and with smooth sailing he can get the best of this competitive field. (1) BATTLE MAGE tired on the front end in her local return but it was still a productive effort and the speedy sort lands the best post. (4) EXS AND OHS took money last week and didn’t race badly; mare is another in here with a chance. (7) ALWAYS A GOOD TIME goes for DiDomenico now off the claim and he raced well in this barn a couple of years ago.
Race 3 - $12,500 Claiming
(1) MANHATTAN BENNY is a proven fit at this level and seems capable of perking up with the barn change. (5) PAN STREET USA has missed a few weeks but he’s worth considering moving to the Andrew Harris barn. (3) MR HAM SANDWICH did finish well last week to be second best but he’s a bit on the erratic side and tough to use at a short price. (2) KEYSTONE HONOR draws well which should enable him to carve out a piece.
Race 4 - $12,500/$15,000 Claiming Handicap
(2) BROOKDALE FLETCHER was a solid second last week at a big price and now he moves to the Chris Height barn via claim; worth considering on that angle alone. (1) RIPROY did get the job done wire-to-wire last out but that was an easy spot and the Banca trainee could be a bit vulnerable here facing a bit better at his expected short odds. (3) BROOKIES PRINCE N hasn’t been quite as sharp as he was when he won about 100 in a row earlier in the fall meet but he still should be a player here; he’s another with the potentially positive barn-change angle to consider. (8) AMRCANBOOTSSCOOTA A surprisingly never got involved last week when in a seemingly live spot; he’ll be a big price tonight and we’ll see if new driver Bongiorno can somehow get him into play.
Race 5 – NW5000 in last 5 starts
(2) MACH ONE does show a win versus better six back and he gets some class and post relief facing a very weak and suspect field. (4) DELIGTHFUL JOE ships in from Saratoga where he’s been holding his own recently and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him on the move early. (1) UNDERTAKER was okay two back versus $15K claimers and landing the best post obviously helps. (8) VORACITY has been a massive disappointment this year and the eight hole obviously does him no favors; consider him underneath for a small share.
Race 6 - $20,000 Claiming – **Pick 5**
(3) GYPSY LEATHER was reclaimed by Blumenfeld and just missed from a similar spot two back; that 15/1 morning line is certainly enticing but he’ll have to be at his best to top this competitive group. (4) LET’S FOAL AROUND has been a steady commodity in his three starts off the Banca claim and he keeps Bartlett. (5) WIND BLAST hung last week as the odds-on favorite after pulling the pocket; price on the Lance Hudson trainee goes up tonight. (2) TALENT SOUP is up in class off the Ruiz claim looking for three straight.
Race 7 – NW7500 in last 5 starts
(3) BETTOR SPIRITS N was the textbook definition of a “jobgurger” in his debut for the Cory Stratton barn and he may have more to offer facing better. (1) FIZZING N added Lasix for Vallee and was very aggressively handled before giving way badly; he drops in class again and final lands a good post. (5) AWESOMENESS was disappointing last week with a weak uncovered move; prior effort was a solid pocket-sitting second. (2) BULLVILLE KYLE never wins but he generally comes out of his races with a paycheck; he can save ground and land a minor share.
Race 8 – F&M NW10000 in last 5 starts
(2) SUE’S NIGHT OUT gets some post relief and Siegelman has upset with the Surick trainee in the not-too-distant past. (4) ASK MY SECRETARY was a good second in her last two and Kakaley sticks with her over a couple of other rivals. (5) JUXTA COWGIRL drops in class and was a solid winner when last at this level. (3) FIREBBY A faltered with little excuse versus a notch lesser last week and is tough to take off that 2/1 morning line coming off that losing effort.
Race 9 – NW10000 in last 5 starts
(2) FINNICK ODAIR is up in class off a very sharp two-move front-end effort and the Team Bongiorno charge may be good enough to take another. (4) CLARION HALL has been a winning machine and he’s clearly capable of taking another. (6) SECET BROREY was a strong and well-meant winner last out but this is a much tougher spot tonight and he may be reduced to a lesser share. (1) TORKIL has zero current form but he was a winner here six back.
Race 10 – NW10000 in last 5 starts
(4) ROCKIN M has jogged in two straight at Freehold and he’s right back in the box on three days rest; Surick trainee seems capable of taking another. (2) BACKSTREET LAWYER gets big-time post relief after going through the motions last week from the eight hole and he has no choice but to be more involved tonight. (4) GALACTIC GALLEON N held his own versus $40K claimers and the Vallee trainee should appreciate the class relief. (5) DECISION DAY hasn’t won in ages but overall the Saunders trainee fits with this type; Dube’s choice.
