Best Bet: ANURKA (6th)
Spot Play: TORKIL (2nd)
Race 1 - $10,000 Claiming
(1) BURNING DESIRE has been in much better form recently in Jersey and the Harris trainee returns locally landing the best post; gelding looks like a short-priced winner to kick off the card. (3) KEYSTONE HONOR has plenty of back class for Laterza and seems like he has found a home at the bottom claiming level. (5) ROCKIN CELEBRATION did flash some good early speed in his last local try and could build off that effort. (2) MY SPIRIT SOARS paced evenly from the back of the pack last week and now gets major post relief.
Race 2 – NW5000 in last 5 starts
(3) TORKIL finished with plenty of late trot last week but had too far to come; post relief will help immensely and this small barn did send out a winner here last week. (2) ELDORADO OF GOLD S brushed, rated and was an easy winner at odds-on in his local return; veteran is the one to catch again. (5) VOLARE returns locally for Allard and has had success here in the past. (8) KEYSTONE CHARGER fits well with this type but may have too much ground to cover from post eight; perhaps he can land a small share at a big price.
Race 3 – NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime
(3) AUDI BAYAMA raced very well to be second best last week in a nice acclimating mile and Allard trainee should take the next logical step tonight. (2) PLATINUM PEARL had some finishing pace in traffic, finishing in behind the top choice last week. (5) SO FRISKY is an interesting Canadian shipper and she shows a ton of “1’s” on her lines over the half-miler at Flamboro. (6) CLEARLY BETTER picks up Bartlett upon arrival and she shows some decent Meadowlands form.
Race 4 – NW7500 in last 5 starts
(2) SWANCREDIT raced pretty well in his last couple of local tries and the veteran has good speed from a good post; he deserves a look in this competitive trotting event. (6) SUGAR TOP gets some class relief and anything from DiDomenico with Brennan driving deserves respect. (1) MUGSHOT JESS recently added Lasix when making his 300th lifetime start and the 13-year-old likely needed that tightening mile; can he show more tonight? (3) MIGHTY SURF has some speed and generally stays flat; Laterza trainee can round out the rest.
Race 5 – NW5000 in last 5 starts
(1) SEVEN KNIGHTS took some money in his local return but never got involved from the outside post; move all the way inside should make him a player here. (3) ZAGSTER was a six-figure earner last year and that was a solid effort in defeat at the Meadowlands last start. (5) JUSTICE JET showed some improvement in his second start for new connections. (6) AXIOS gets Siegelman in the bike and does appear to have some ability.
Race 6 – NW2 races or $25,000 lifetime
(5) ANURKA had a very productive local debut, finishing a close-up third, and the Pelling trainee can certainly build off that effort. (1) MILIONDOLAR BEAUTY gets major post relief and will be more of a player tonight. (7) DREAMFAIR HELENA was a sharp winner last out at Freehold; only problem here is the post. (3) HOOPLA HANOVER has been a steady check-earner and she can be considered in the third or fourth spot.
Race 7 – NW7500 in last 5 starts
(6) DJOKOVIC N showed surprising speed upon arrival and almost lasted for the upset but he bobbled midstretch and was collared by the favorite; veteran should be a good price again and is worth considering. (1) ALWAYS A GOOD TIME returns locally off a win at Freehold and was Brennan’s choice for DiDomenico. (3) ADAGIO DE LA TOUR was clearly short last week off the break but he drops in class again and could be tighter. (4) KEYSTONE ANGEL has been off over a month for Team Bongiorno but she goes for two straight and could be a player if ready.
Race 8 – F&M NW5000 in last 5 starts
(5) LK’S NANCY LEE qualified evenly up at Monticello over a slow track and she gets Bartlett in the bike for her 2020 debut; mare has beaten better than these in the past. (4) THREEDEE DELIGHT A had just one win over 41 starts last season but her last few over at The Meadowlands haven’t been bad. (1) JK JAZZITUP has good speed from the best post. (3) MOTU MOONBEAM N is another camera-shy type but she has plenty of local experience.
Race 9 – F&M NW7500 in last 5 starts
(4) JUXTA COWGIRL never got involved from a tough spot last week but she moves in a few slots tonight and the mare has good speed to be a player. (2) BETABCOOL N has back class and appears ready to go off that qualifier. (3) CHERRY BLISS will be within striking range and has a legit chance to hit the ticket. (5) CAVIART CHERIE isn’t close to what she used to be but she has looked better in her last couple of races.
Race 10 – NW8 races or $100,000 lifetime
(7) BIG THONG was very stubborn in defeat last week and the Allard trainee clearly has the speed to overcome the outside post. (2) ART LECTURE saved ground and finished willingly in her 2020 debut; Gillis trainee can build off that effort. (3) SOMETHING REEL gut hung to dry last week and understandably backed out of it; prior races were good. (1) BE BEST powered by at a big price last start in a race that fell apart and she’s capable of repeating but won’t offer much value.
Race 11 – NW10000 in last 5 starts
In a competitive trot race, (8) STARLIGHT AS was ready off the holiday break and scored as the odds-on favorite. Post eight hurts but he’s worth playing if the price is right. (1) BOOTS N CHAINS offered little in those last two Freehold races but his prior local starts were good. (4) ARRIKIS has good early speed which can set him up with a live trip. (2) TIDQUIST can take plenty of air and can pick up the pieces.
Race 12 – NW6 races or $75,000 lifetime
(3) TRIPLE DIP steps up to the NW6 level but she’s clearly sharp enough to take her third straight. (1) BETCHA BABY is another sharp one who was a multiple-move winner in last week’s victory and she looms large from the best post. (7) SEZANA N has been razor-sharp for Bucci but she’s been off a month and others have a recency edge. (8) BA BA BA BANANA is clearly feeling good now and held stubbornly for second last week after getting passed; outside post presents a clear problem, however.
