Spot Play: TALK SHOW (7th)
Race 1 - $12,500 Claiming
(3) DON MCWHITE took the money but was completely uninvolved in his first start off the 5 month layoff but he did finish up okay; one would assume the Banca trainee will be much more involved tonight. (8) IOWA NEIGHTIVE flashed good speed and raced well in his local turn, but was run over by the sharp trip-sitter; he goes for a new barn tonight and deserves consideration even from the worst post. (1) BROOKDALE FLETCHER raced decently in his last two starts at The Meadowlands and we’ll see how he fits here in his local debut; drawing the rail obviously helps. (6) LUCK N ROLL K hails from the Harris barn and has leading driver Brennan in the bike.
Race 2 – NW7500 in last 5 starts
(4) MADMAN HALL went a big trip in defeat last week and the Schnittker trainee is long-overdue. (5) CHAS HANOVER ships in from Pocono, picks up Bartlett and may appreciate the change in scenery. (7) ALWAYS A GOOD TIME was never involved versus better in his local return but he’s beaten better than these in the past. (1) WATKINS returns from Philly off a second-place effort and the oldtimer can never be counted out.
Race 3 – F&M NW5000 in last 5 starts
In a very tough-to-figure event (8) DALI DELIGHT has done nothing since the Blumenfeld claim but she drops in class and this barn has awakened recently; post eight is tough but if Brennan can work some magic she can top these at a price. (1) EXOTIC DANCE has been tough to gauge but the filly seems to have a touch of ability and she draws best. (7) THE LADY SHERIFF has raced well in her last few at The Meadowlands and she picks up Bartlett upon arrival. (3) HALF A VIRGIN arrives from the Midwest and she’s hit the ticket in her last three.
Race 4 - $15,000/$20,000 Claiming Handicap
(1) DRAWING DRAGONS arrives from Pocono for the Oakes barn, which has done good things here with Goodell driving and he drops in for a tag while landing the best post; he may be primed for a big effort. (3) JK HEAVEN SENT didn’t fire last week trying to make a second move but his prior start for this barn was solid. (6) TOWNSLIGHT HANOVER certainly knows his way around this track and he gets Bartlett for his local return; veteran could be a late threat. (7) AMRCANBOOTSSCOOTA A disappointed last out at 1/5 odds and now he goes for Dilloian off the claim; much bigger price tonight if you want to give him another chance.
Race 5 – F&M NW10000 in last 5 starts
(2) CHECKERED PAST has never been a prolific winner but she did battle stubbornly before giving way in her local return and Holland sticks with her over a couple of other logical contenders. (1) LA ALWAYS A MARTINI is an inconsistent type but she’s capable on her best day. (5) SHADY SECRET A returns locally off two dominating wins versus cheaper out of town; sharp sort deserves consideration. (4) BULLVILLEKARLA has quietly banked $76K this season racing mostly in age-restricted races; she can save ground midpack and emerge with a small share.
Race 6 – NW5000 in last 5 starts
(4) QUALITY CLOSER put in a quality effort from post eight in his Yonkers return, rallying from a no-chance spot to snatch third; post relief gives him a big chance tonight. (6) DEMOCRACY N returns from the Big M off three fairly solid efforts and the Blumenfeld trainee should fit well returning locally at this basement level. (3) REASONABLE FORCE gets needed class and post relief; player. (7) FULLBACK also gets needed class relief but he hasn’t been at his best recently and the outside post obviously hurts.
Race 7 – NW5000 in last 5 starts
(6) TALK SHOW qualified with vigor and the Banca trainee may be ready to do some damage right off the shelf. (5) CANBEC KINGCAZIMIR offered no resistance when hit by a big blitz of a sharp rival last start and overall the Bob Bongiorno trainee has been a bit of a disappointment but he still must be considered a threat versus this type. (1) FOX VALLEY INFERNO ships in off a nice odds-on score versus lower-level conditioned types at Philly and he lands the best post here. (8) VOLLEY BALL BEACH certainly has the speed to get involved from the eight hole but he’s had some trouble finishing his miles; consider, but use caution.
Race 8 – F&M NW7500 in last 5 starts
(4) JAG OUT qualified quite effectively and the classy Nick Surick-trained mare is more than capable of taking these coast-to-coast. (7) IDEAL CLASSIC drops a notch off an even effort in her local return, picks up this capable Stratton guy in the sulky and could be a player at a healthy price. (3) FRANSCHOEK gets class and post relief and was a good third versus much better three back. (1) FAMILY ROLL CALL returns locally off a win at The Meadowlands and she draws best.
Race 9 – F&M NW10000 in last 5 starts
(4) HURRICANE CALLEIGH stays at the winning level looking for her third straight dominating score. (2) NEON SKY N faces softer going first-out off the DiDomenico claim and looms a big threat from this spot. (3) DIAMONDTOOTHGERTIE finally put it all back together with a solid uncovered win last week and now she’s back up in class facing tougher. (5) MILLIONDOLLARGEM A hasn’t shown much in two U.S. starts for Lance Hudson but at 20/1 on the morning line it’s tough not to give her a look.
Race 10 – NW7500 in last 5 starts
(1) BETTOR’S PROMISE gets a big driver upgrade to Brennan while landing the best post and he seems eligible to get well in a hurry. (5) THE LUNCH PAIL fits nicely with these and with smooth sailing he’ll be coming late. (2) LETTUCERIPRITA A has some class and gets needed post relief. (4) THE ONLYEST ONE gets Bartlett in the bike for Surick and could offer up more. I’ll go five-deep here and mention (8) TAKE IT BACK TERRY, who is obviously a shell of his former self but it wasn’t that long ago that he was a top-shelf pacer.
Race 11 – NW10000 in last 5 starts
(1) ANOTHER BREATH goes first-out for Allard off the purchase and lands in a very live spot tonight; only concern is the missed time. (5) CLARION HALL goes for another new barn off the claim and stays at the winning level; trotter has been awesome recently and will be heading to the front again. (3) ALLTHEFIXINS may have a bit to prove facing more seasoned foes but you can’t question the 3-year-old’s solid form. (4) TIDQUIST is reunited with Holland and he can be on the scene late.
Race 12 – NW10000 in last 5 starts
(4) BLAISE MM HANOVER recently had been holding his own facing rugged $40K claimers and was a good second last week out of town; Godinez trainee can be on the move early. (1) BETTING EXCHANGE does his best work at this level; threat. (2) WEONA SIZZLER A has been a massive disappointment this season but he does lands in a good spot for his local return. (5) HITMAN HILL is another one in here who fits nicely class-wise and he has a chance.
