Best Bet: ROCKATHON (4th)
Spot Play: GRAND MASTER (8th)
Race 1 - $12,500 Claiming
(1) MR HAM SANDWICH returned from a year’s vacation, showed a couple of dull qualifiers then raced very willingly to be second best; Allard trainee won’t offer much value here but he deserves top billing off that effort. (3) TOP OF THE MARK recently moved to the Andrew Harris barn and showed a couple of decent tries over at The Meadowlands; 10-year-old looks like a good fit here. (8) NORTHERN ASSASSIN A has the speed to overcome the eight hole and Bartlett will undoubtedly be firing from the gate. (2) MASTER THE VIEW has been sharp in all recent tries at this level and the post relief obviously gives him a chance.
Race 2 – NW7750 in last 5 starts
(6) GOLDEN KRONOS returns from upstate New York and he’s beaten better than these in the past. (2) DEKEYSER recently added hobbles and he’s been racing okay; Stratton opts off, however, to go to the Schnittker-trained (3) MADMAN HALL, who has the ability but has been underachieving of late. (5) ROSSINI had raced well at Yonkers a few months ago and maybe the change in scenery wakes him up.
Race 3 – F&M NW7500 in last 5 starts
(1) FREEZE OUT’s wins have been hard to come by lately but her last two efforts were solid and the Bucci trainee is certainly overdue. (5) SHES SPORTY A is back up a notch in class off a confidence-building victory. (6) CERTIFIED IDEAL fits well with this type and the veteran should be able to land a share. (4) DALI DELIGHT has done nothing lately but this barn has shown some signs of life and she’ll be a huge price to consider on the bottom of the ticket.
Race 4 – NW7500 in last 5 starts
(3) ROCKATHON returns locally off a stint at The Big M where he was showing good speed; gelding has been competitive with much better here in the past. (1) COOL BLUES MAN just missed last week in solid try and the Mike Forte trainee obviously has a big chance here. (4) WARMINSTER A needs a good trip but is capable. (5) FULLBACK has been burning money recently and Bartlett opts off for the top choice.
Race 5 – F&M NW10200 in last 5 starts
(5) DARK FORCE bounced back from a lame scratch with a jogola score versus lesser and the Croghan trainee seems sharp enough to repeat facing some better competition. (1) LINE DANCER has speed, the best post, leading driver Brennan in the bike and she will be set up nicely from this spot. (2) LYONS JENNIELEE was in tough spots in her last couple; the Stratton brothers have a live chance here. (6) TRUTH AND LIBERTY is closing in on her fourth consecutive $100K season but she may be in for a long haul from this outside post.
Race 6 – F&M NW5000 in last 5 starts
(3) EXOTIC DANCE was the pick last week as she was hinting at better form and Stratton handled her to a nice second-place finish; filly may be ready to get over the hump. (2) ONEIDA BLUE CHIP picks up Bartlett in her local returns and draws well; player. (1) KEYSTONE NIKKI tired pretty badly in her debut off the Allard claim but with her speed and the best post she has to be considered. (4) WESTERN SHOWGIRL raced pretty well last start for Ray Baynes and she can land another piece here.
Race 7 – F&M NW10000 in last 5 starts
(2) BETTERTHANBRIE moves back out of the age-restricted ranks and she’s been pretty good in all recent races with Zeron at the controls; perhaps she can grind her way to victory from this spot. (5) LOVIN MISS DAISY N took advantage of a soft spot to go wire-to-wire last week and the Oakes trainee has an obvious chance to repeat. (6) ROLLING GOING GONE returns locally off a victory at Pocono and the Garcia-Herrera trainee was a winner here at this level a couple of months ago. (4) AMANDEROSA doesn’t have the greatest winning profile but she draws better and could be leaving the gate from this spot.
Race 8 – NW5000 in last 5 starts
(3) GRAND MASTER does his best work at this bottom level and he gets a driver upgrade to Brennan tonight for a barn that’s shown some signs of life recently; oldtimer is a legit threat to go wire-to-wire here. (1) PANTHEON HANOVER returns to Yonkers for the first time in quite some time and he gets Bartlett in the bike from the best post; contender. (5) MIKADO BLUECHIP arrives from The Big M, keeps Zeron and looks like a good fit. (8) PARTY BOY fits perfectly at this level but has no speed from post eight with the owner listed to drive; insist on a huge price if taking a swing.
Race 9 – NW10000 in last 5 starts
(1) BLENHEIM needs to behave himself but he’s been in good form for a potent driver/trainer combo. (3) CHERRY PEEP has been good recently and now goes for Allard via claim. (2) SOUTHWIND CRUZE looks like another contender here for Team Bongiorno. (4) CLARION HALL has been razor-sharp for multiple barns and he’s capable of firing hard off the gate and looping the inside rivals into the first turn.
Race 10 – NW10000 in last 5 starts
(1) MACINTOSH N gets a catch-driver back in the bike tonight off a tough beat and the Vallee-trained veteran can take this field coast-to-coast in the finale. (3) MCARDLES LIGHTNING dropped and popped last week with a game uncovered effort nipping the top choice in the process; DiDomenico trainee is an obvious threat to repeat. (6) OFFICIAL DELIGHT and (7) LONDON SEELSTER are a couple of sharpies who both need to overcome the poor draws but either could step up and surprise with the right trip.
