Best Bet: WISHYOU’DTELLME (6th)
Spot Play: TOPSPIN S (9th)
Race 7 - $10,000 Guaranteed Pick-5 Pool
Race 1 – Excelsior A – 3YO Colt Pacers
(6) CHATELROLL certainly didn’t disgrace himself in the EBC at Tioga and he breezed through his last three Excelsior races; he’s clearly the one to beat here despite the outside post. (3) ALEX TYE has good speed and may have a tactical advantage from this spot. (4) CENTURY FERRARI and (5) SURREAL ART have both shown they are capable but have had behavioral issues recently.
Race 2 – NW 2 or $25,000 lifetime
(4) ALTERNATIVE FACT lost touch last week at the back of the pack in a fast mile but he draws a better spot tonight and Schnittker won with him recently in a Tompkins division at Tioga; he gets a weak call in this tough-to-figure event. (7) FRONTIER CREEDA and (8) CLASSY GUY both look like the main speeds but from outside posts. (5) THANKS FOR LEAVING has had breaking issues but Lachance has been good recently catch-driving for this barn.
Race 3 - Excelsior A – 3YO Colt Pacers
(2) MURROW BOY raced evenly from the back of the pack last out in a tough overnight event and he was a solid winner in an Excelsior event here a couple of months back; Bartlett sticks with him.
(4) RICKYBOBBYNTHEHAUS broke in his lone try here but otherwise his form has been solid. (3) ROLLONHIGHWAY gets some needed post relief and looks like another logical contender. (6) CRIUS N ROCK should be passing a couple of these late.
Race 4 - $12,500 Claiming
(4) BROOKIES PRINCE N is the King of these $12,500 claimers looking for his 8th straight win but note he is in a new barn tonight…could that be used as an excuse if he fails? (2) BJ’S GUY hasn’t fired at all after moving back to the Godinez barn but the veteran still needs to be considered. (5) COACH CAL is a player at this level but drawing outside the top choice doesn’t help. (1) CANDELL drops back to this level and gets post relief.
Race 5 – NYSS 3YO C&G Pacers
(1) ROLLWITHPAPAJOE hasn’t fired his best recently but he cruised on the front end in his last two local races and the Team Bongiorno trainee looms large from the pole position. (5) MAJOR MARCH is a legit talent but he needs to overcome the outermost post; don’t accept too short of a price. (2) COVERED BRIDGE raced very well in the EBC final; obvious player in this short but select group.
Race 6 – NW2 or $26,700 lifetime
(3) WISHYOU’DTELLME put in a solid effort in defeat upon arrival, getting outmuscled late by the sharp front-end winner; logical selecting here. (4) EVIE HANOVER raced well from the eight hole last week versus better and the post relief should make her a threat. (2) SKYWAY KON MAN broke before the start last week for Smedshammer but he enters him right back in; risky play. (8) BLUTO’S DIAMOND was an upset winner last out for good connections and Bartlett sticks with him but he may have too much ground to cover from the eight hole.
Race 7 – NW4 or $50,000 lifetime
(3) TOTAL DIVA hasn’t raced badly at all in her last two starts, both at big prices; mare faces a camera-shy group and seems capable of getting off the seasonal schneid from this spot. (6) RACEACE raced well here in the past for Nifty Norman and looks like a player. (4) TRAIN OF THOUGHT arrives from Philly off a win and Beyer has won here for Julie Miller in the past. (7) BROADWAY MUSCLES gets Jordan Stratton in the bike tonight subbing for his brother and he’ll be a big price; exotics candidate?
Race 8 – F&M NW5000 in last 5 starts
(1) SHADY STELLA has done nothing off the recent Harris claim but the owners quickly have shifted the horse to the Banca barn and she’s clearly capable of awakening. (5) BETTERTHANBRIE faltered on the front end last week but she still should be a player here. (3) MOTU MOONBEAM N is one of many struggling veterans from the Blumenfeld barn but the class relief will help. (2) ALWAYS CURIOUS gets major post relief in her second local start and must be included.
Race 9 – NW4 or $50,000 lifetime
(4) TOPSPIN S is reunited with Bartlett and they teamed up for a win when the import first arrived at Yonkers; worth a look. (3) ARABELLA’S CADET delivered at first local asking for Hudson/Stratton; mare will probably be favored to repeat. (5) COTTON TO YOU will becoming late for a piece. (2) CONSUS VICTORY has some minor stakes experience and arrives off a big try at The Meadows.
Race 10 – NW6 or $75,000 lifetime
(1) CHIPLOSIVE is one of a few Smedshammer trainees in overnight events tonight and this one looks well-spotted with a smooth trip. (3) ALEXANDRIA HANOVER finally broke through with a win last out and the Burke trainee is capable of making it back-to-back. (2) MERRY HANOVER has trotted evenly in her last few and can save ground and rally for a piece. (5) ON THE ROPES broke early last start ending her night but he trotted willingly the start prior upon arrival.
Race 11 – NW8 or $100,000 lifetime
(5) MAX put in a huge effort in defeat upon arrival but Burke and the gelding should be followed up off that effort. (1) SEVEN KNIGHTS has never been one of my favorites but he put in a big race last out to narrow the gap late on the heavily-favored winner. (3) MAGIC MVP has been solid since arriving and he returns to Sears tonight. (6) CRUISING IN STYLE barely hung on at 1/5 last out; price will be much better if he successfully repeats.
Race 12 – F&M NW10000 in last 5 starts
(4) SCWARTZ BROS BEATY was gunned down by a sharp rival last week while safely holding second; Banca trainee is a serious threat to take these coast-to-coast in the finale. (2) ALWAYS WOGGY didn’t fire at all last out; he’s better than that and the inside post helps. (1) SUE’S NIGHT OUT will likely look to sit a pocket trip but will need to show more late. (5) DEUCES FOR CHARITY has quietly raced very well in her last two; she bumps up in class but may have enough to round out the ticket.
