Matt Rose|Jun 18, 2019
Yonkers logo

MEET STATS: 197 - 559 / $1,017.20 (-$100.80)

BEST BETS: 29 - 49 / $85.80 (-$12.20)

Best Bet: OMAHA OMAHA (11th)

Spot Play: NY WHITESOX (10th)

Race 7 - $10,000 Guaranteed Pick-5 Pool

Race 1 – NYSS 2YO

(3) ABSTRACTION qualified well with good finishes over the half-miler at Harrington and he picks up Stratton for his career debut; will he be ready to roll in this wide-open event for freshman pacers? (1) CAKE DADDY flashed good speed in the back halves of those qualifiers upstate. (5) ALWAYS ON THE HUNT debuts for Schnittker, who usually has them ready, and he gets the catch-driving Mark MacDonald in the bike. (7) MAJOR ON THE BEACH is an Art Major-sired colt for his Canadian connections worth a look; post is a problem.

Race 2 – NW2 or $25,000 lifetime

(2) SOLATIRE HILL hasn’t quite panned out for these sharp trotting connections but she was a winner four back in overnight company at Philly. (3) GOT NO MONEY HONEY got a clean line in off the qualifier and could have more to offer with the improved post. (4) MUSCLE N BEAUTY has speed and she’s been behaving herself with the hobbles added. (5) LOVE TRUIMPS HATE is another who is much-improved since adding the trotting hobbles.

Race 3 – NYSS 2YO

(5) SPLASH BROTHER looked full of energy in those morning trials for Schnittker and the same effort tonight can topple these. (1) DARBIE’S IDEAL showed good speed at both ends of his miles in those qualifiers in Pennsylvania and we’ll see if that translates well onto the smaller track; inside post is obviously good but can also be a bit tricky for a youngster. (2) SO SO DE VIE is one of about a thousand Burke 2-year-olds that we’ll be seeing everywhere and he gets Kakaley in the bike off ‘okay’ Gaitway qualifiers. (7) ARCTIC FORCE debuts for DiDomenico off just one willing Canadian qualifier and I’m sure he’s ready to go.

Race 4 – NW2 or $25,000 lifetime

(7) BIG WEEZY has just one win in 17 career tries but the filly seems well-mannered and has been facing better than these; Kakaley will get her in play. (1) ARVIKA broke in her local debut then played it safe at The Meadowlands last out; Canadian form suggests she can go with these if she minds her manners. (4) LADY ALLAIRE is another Marcus Melander trainee in search of a softer spot. (8) CAPITOL T HILL almost lasted last week in the breaker-scattered field; outside post may limit her chances tonight.

Race 5 – NYSS 2YO

(7) AMERICAN REBEL ships down from Rideau in Ontario off willing qualifiers and we’ve seen horses taking this path for these connections have success here in the past. (5) CIGARS AND PORT is another Schnittker youngster who looks ready to go. (1) COME ON RAGS keeps Zeron in the bike for Toscano off a couple of even q’s. The rest look like a toss-up.

Race 6 – NYSS 2YO

(3) GROOVY JOE showed solid closing speed first time out on the track then was an open-lengths winner over an off Mohawk surface second out; Blake Macintosh-trained Roll With Joe offspring could be ready from this good post. (1) THE MYSTIC and (1A) TETON SUNSET are a pair from the Schnittker barn that both look ready for action; problem is they both landed on the outside of the gate. (4) SAVE ME A DANCE was Bartlett’s choice for the Harris barn off an even morning debut.

Race 7 - $12,500/$15,000 Clm

(5) CHEYENNE JEFFREY has really fallen on hard times but I’m willing to give this veteran a look in his local return if the price is good enough. (3) ROCK ICON moves into yet another new barn off a lost effort and this outfit did have a winner here last week. (4) MANHATTAN BENNY was reclaimed by Garcia-Herrera and the gelding remains sharp. (1) SWELLENDAM drops in for a tag for DiDomenico and draws best but has little current form.

Race 8 – NW4 or $50,000 lifetime

(8) BLUE AND BOLD broke in his last local appearance but he’s faced better since then out of town with some success and the Harris trainee deserves a long look here, despite the poor post. (3) GRANDPA ERV ships in from Saratoga for unknown connections but he does get some post relief and seems to be trotting fast enough to be competitive here. (1) CHECKMATE HILL has to bump up in class off last week’s win and will likely hit the ticket but isn’t all that appealing on top. (2) PHOTO BOMBER has hit the ticket at big prices in two of his last three local starts.

Race 9 – NW6 or $75,000 lifetime

(1) ALEXANDRIA HANOVER rallied well in her last two for Burke and now with the post relief she deserves top billing. (6) DONTFORGETMASTER broke in his last local start but followed that up with a nice bounce-back effort at Pocono and had been racing very well here in prior starts. (3) INTEROVER has the early speed that always puts her in play. (2) MRS DARCY was much better in her second start for Lance Hudson and should be included here.

Race 10 – NW5000 in last 5

(5) NY WHITESOX was claimed away from Regina again and now enters the DiDomenico barn; he had plenty of pace in that start three back for Allard. (3) REACH FOR INFINITY finally lands in a more realistic spot; include. (2) MAC ANOVER also gets some post relief and he keeps Bartlett (Mr. 8,000!). (4) AMRCANBOOTSSCOOTA A has an effort at Freehold four back that would be good enough to make an impact if replicated here.

Race 11 – NW8 or $100,000 lifetime

(5) OMAHA OMAHA bottomed from the pocket when last seen at Yonkers in the Bonus series final but he followed that up with a series of strong efforts; Harder trainee is clearly a prime contender here. (1) NO EXCUSES was a no-doubt winner last week wiring them from the outside post; much shorter price looming tonight but clearly she’s capable of repeating. (2) PINE BUSH ROSE was scratched-sick last week which is a bit concerning but prior efforts have hinted at serious ability. (4) SECRET BRO steps up looking for three straight.

Race 12 – F&M NW10000 in last 5

(5) MELANIE’S FILLY has some live moves in her and perhaps with smooth sailing the Allard trainee will be right there at the wire. (4) SUE’S NIGHT OUT clearly needed last week’s start where she paced evenly from the back of the back; this is a much better spot. (3) DIAMONDTOOTHGERTIE rallied from last to be third last week; quite logical moving inside. (2) FILLY FORTY SEVEN keeps Bartlett for Harris; that angle alone merits consideration.
