BEST BETS: 64 - 117 / $204.70 (-$29.30)
Best Bet: KEYSTONE ANGEL (4th)
Spot Play: DREAM OF LUCK (10th)
Race 1 – F&M NW5100 in last 5 starts
(8) SHE’S SPORTY A takes a needed drop in class and also importantly goes back to Bartlett; mare has shown the ability to get out of the gate in a hurry which she’ll need to do to overcome post eight. (1) I’M ON A TERROR took advantage of a soft spot to turn things around last week; I’d be leery of taking a short price on her, however. (5) DEUCES FOR CHARITY still hasn’t won yet this year but she usually does her best work at this level. (7) BETTERTHANBRIE fits well here but needs to find a way into the race.
Race 2 – NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime
(3) CELEBRITY STALLONE had a useful return start last out and the Allard trainee can build off that effort; tepid vote. (1) RAFIKI AS raced willingly at The Meadowlands after shipping from the Midwest for his new barn; assuming he behaves himself the Chris Marino trainee looks like a good fit here. (6) CLASSY GUY broke sitting a loose pocket last out and that’s two miscues in her last three races; sandwiched between is an easy front-end score. (4) MISS YOU KELLY is coming off a sick scratch but she raced well from a similar spot two back.
Race 3 – F&M NW5000 in last 5 starts
(3) CAVIART SCARLETT and (2) QUEBEC BLUE CHIP both took a little money from their outside posts last week and neither entered contention; post relief may get one or both over the top. (6) MILLIONDOLLARGEM A is a rare Lance Hudson import that’s shown nothing since arriving but she drops to the bottom here. (4) MAJOR FROST picks up Bartlett and has shown good early speed in her last couple of races.
Race 4 – NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime
(5) KEYSTONE ANGEL raced well upon arrival for Team Bongiorno but had too much ground to cover; trotter can be even tighter tonight in her second start for these connections. (1) MUFASA AS has raced well in all recent from inside posts for good connections. (4) PETRO HALL was a bit short in the late stages last week but overall it wasn’t a bad effort. (6) DEW CAN DEW gets a big driver upgrade to Goodell and the filly will be a juicy price.
Race 5 – NW8 races or $100,000 lifetime
(3) HILL OF A HORSE raced very well here two back against more seasoned foes in a NW21000 event and followed that up with a sharp win at Philly at odds-on; Erv Miller trainee may be best of a very competitive group. (1) RACEACE has done nothing wrong in all recent for DiDomenico and he’s in line for another nice payday tonight. (5) PHOTO BOMBER finished very alertly last week after having to abort a leave attempt; Burke trainee gets Kakaley in the bike and must be considered. (6) LIGHTS COME ON blew up at the start last week; toss that line out and the Lortentzon trainee will be right in the thick of things.
Race 6 – NW5000 in last 5 starts
(3) NATURAL LEDA finished with a flourish right off the bench then never reached last week from the outside last week; veteran gets post relief and this barn did win a race here last week. (4) BEAST MODE raced well to be second best last out but it’s tough to take a short price on a horse that lacks a winning profile. (7) TJ BLAST was better last week and now faces a bit softer; assume Kakaley will be firing early with the gelding. (1) REASONABLE FORCE draws best and figures to be close up throughout.
Race 7 – F&M NW10000 in last 5 starts
(1) ROSE RUN TONI closed stoutly in her last two to be second best, just missing in both efforts. Expect a change in tactics from this inside post at underlay odds. (3) ANYTIME N raced well a couple of months ago over the half-miler at Harrington and the mare may appreciate the change in scenery. (7) QUITE A DELIGHT N didn’t get involved from an outside post two back but all other efforts were good; we’ll see if Bongiorno can improve position some at the start. (8) SHEZALLAPPLES A is another capable one with the live hands of Bartlett but the eight hole obviously presents problems.
Race 8 – NW15000 in last 5 starts
(7) BLOOD BROTHER is clearly feeling pretty good again; does Bartlett take a shot and fire hard with the Banca-trained veteran? Let’s see how live he is on the board. (1) MOHAWK WARRIOR had no excuse to get beat last week which makes him tough to play on top tonight but he should be in line for a live trip and it’s tough not to include him. (3) KILLER MARTINI can obviously win this but he won’t offer much value and he’s disappointed in scenarios like this in the past. (4) ROCK THE NITE was Kakaley’s choice and the Harris trainee was an upset winner versus similar four back.
Race 9 – NW6 races or $75,000 lifetime
(1) GETTIN MESSI was a solid second to the $2.10-winning (8) SENSIBILITY last week and maybe the Bob Bongiorno trainee can turn the tables with the post edge. The latter had no problem winning two in a row at short prices after arriving for Burke and we’ll see how she handles some potential adversity starting from the worst post. (5) WITHOUT A DOUBT has been right there recently facing some talented rivals and the Erv Miller trainee has a big chance here. (6) FAVORITE UNCLE faltered badly last week after facing harsh pressure; he’ll be a much better price tonight coming from off the pace.
Race 10 – NW15200 in last 5 starts
(4) DREAM OF LUCK raced very well last week with good speed at both ends; he’s up in class but faces a field with some question marks and the Chris Height trainee may be worth a try. (3) OURLITTLEGENERAL A faces softer tonight but his last race was less-than-inspiring. (2) LIGHTNING ONMYFEET was going nowhere in a hurry from the eight hole last week but was an upset winner from a similar spot two back. (6) TAKE IT BACK TERRY isn’t close to what he one was but he still seems like a serviceable overnight veteran from the Burke barn; he double-jumps in class off a win but he can carve out a share here on memory alone.
