Yonkers: Svanstedt sweeps Yonkers Trot, Hudson Filly Trot with Six Pack, Plunge Blue Chip

Six Pack was in no rush early, and that probably made his work easier as he captured the $500,000 Yonkers Trot in dominant fashion Saturday night at Yonkers Raceway in a 1:54 mile. Ake Svanstedt guided the son of Muscle Mass to his sixth win in nine starts on the season.
Lindsey's Pride got away quickly to the lead for Marcus Miller, and Six Pack and The Veteran left from the outside. Svanstedt methodically worked his way towards the lead in the opening quarter as Jordan Stratton attempted to put The Veteran in a hole but lost that battle when the colt broke stride.
Six Pack had control in a 28 4/5 quarter and once at the half in :58 1/5, just made quick work of the field, losing his rivals with a blistering 28 2/5 third quarter and then romping off with a 27 2/5 final stanza while winning in-hand. Helpisontheway, a $30,000 supplement, came out of the three-hole in the stretch to get the place over a brave 80-1 Lindsey's Pride. The Veteran rallied back late for fourth after the early miscue.
Ake Svanstedt, Little E LLC., Stall Kalmar and Lars Berg own Six Pack, who paid $2.50 for the winning mutuel ticket.
The clocking was the fastest edition of the Yonkers Trot when contested over the Westchester County half-mile oval.
"I didn't need to stress the horse," said Svanstedt about his early activity. "The horse to beat was the one horse (Helpisontheway), but he wasn't on the lead."
Though not qualifying for the Hambletonian final, Svanstedt indicated he would supplement to the Kentucky Futurity later in the season at The Red Mile attempting to garner two-thirds of the Triple Crown.
Plunge Blue Chip put on a speed display in the $129,014 Hudson Filly Trot and then needed urging by driver-trainer Svanstedt to hold off Supergirl Riley by a nose in an all-age track mark of 1:53 1/5.
Hot fractions of 27 3/5, 55 3/5 and 1:23 2/5 were uncontested as Plunge Blue Chip held a solid lead over the runner-up throughout. The margin narrowed in the stretch, but Plunge Blue Chip prevailed for her fourth win in nine tries as a sophomore.
Svanstedt, Blue Chip Bloodstock, Tomas Andersson and Rick Zeron Stable share ownership in Plunge Blue Chip, a $2.50 mutuel winner.
"She was too good," said Svanstedt, "She was pulling too much the first half.
The time also equalled the world record for sophomore filly trotters on a half-mile track set by Frau Blucher in 2013.
