2019 STATS: 418 - 1002 / $1,872.80 (-$131.20)
BEST BETS: 49 - 85 / $150.30 (-$19.70)
Best Bet: ICANFLYLIKEANANGEL (2nd)
Spot Play: STOLEN CAR (5th)
Race 1 – NW10000 in last 5 starts
(1) PERFECT BET gets much-needed post relief and he has a couple of wins recently when drawn inside; Dube’s choice. (3) QUALITY BUD has had some bad luck in his last two starts after moving to the Andrew Harris barn; he’s another that gets needed post relief while facing a bit softer and the gelding looks like a player here. (6) ROOTIN TOOTIN came up a bit short as the favorite last start but it was still a good effort; tough to predict what sort of trip he’s looking at tonight. (4) DREAM OF LUCK has perked up a bit in his last couple.
Race 2 – NW30000 in last 5 starts
(3) ICANFLYLIKEANANGEL has been a new horse since moving to the DiDomenico barn and Brennan sticks with him over a Burke trainee. (5) TOP FLIGHT ANGEL never got involved in stakes action over at Scioto but was a winner here the start prior. (6) STORMY KROMER was rock-solid last week to be second best and the Paul Stafford trainee is very sharp and must be included. (4) DAYSON broke last start in the Open after flashing good speed, ending his modest two-race winning streak. As mentioned Brennan opted off.
Race 3 – NW20000 in last 5 starts
(3) SOMWHERENBROOKLN N may be a bit lacking in the class department but he was good in defeat last week and a similar front-end effort can take this. (1) DOCTOR BUTCH draws best and certainly makes sense from this spot but he’ll likely be heavily bet and seems worth trying to beat. (4) ABERDEEN HANOVER should come away from this with a nice share from Vallee assuming a smooth trip. (7) ELWELL is a nice horse when right and he does get some class relief; possible late threat.
Race 4 – NW20000 in last 5 starts
(1) BLOOD BROTHER has been pretty good for an extended period of time and the Banca trainee was a front-end winner at this level four back. (2) SUMMER SIDE is racing himself back into shape for Schnittker and he’ll get there sooner rather than later. (4) ODDS ON DELRAY loses Holland and is clearly at his best a level down but he should be able to land a piece here. (6) LUCIANO N was Holland’s choice and he raced pretty well last week despite not the best of trips.
Race 5 - $40,000 Claiming
(5) STOLEN CAR has been going well for an extended period of time and the classy 11-year-old meets some rivals here who have question marks; Carmine Fusco trainee seems overdue for a win. (3) FIREBALL raced pretty well last week for a board spot at a price and he can offer some value again tonight. (1) NORMANDY BEACH drops in for a tag and he’ll undoubtedly be on or near the lead here but I wouldn’t accept too short of a price on him. (2) WINDSONG JACK has been underachieving recently but he is proven with this type and would be no surprise if he turned things around.
Race 6 – Open Handicap Trot
(3) THERESADEONINME rebounded last start with a solid runner-up effort and he lands a nice post in this competitive event; worth a look if the price is right. (7) WILL TAKE CHARGE is always deserving of a look here and Stratton may be able to get him out of the gate in good order. (8) EYE OFA TIGER AS seems to be in a tough spot landing the worst post with speed to his inside but he figures to be good price if you want to take a swing. (4) DARLING MEARAS S is a stakes-placed mare for Svanstedt and she qualified sharply in preparation for this; we’ll see how she handles the half-mile.
Race 7 – NW30000 in last 5 starts
(2) MILITARY MASTER A charged home from too far back last week to make it close; obviously anything sent out from Lance Hudson with Stratton driving deserves plenty of respect, especially with the post relief. (4) SHNEONUCRYDIAMND A beat these from a similar spot two back; Croghan trainee is a serious player here. (3) BADIX HANOVER lacked the knockout punch last week but overall he’s been much better since moving to the DiDomenico barn. (1) TIGER BARON gets both needed class and post relief tonight.
Race 8 – Winners over $30,000 in last 5 starts
(4) BENHOPE RULZ N has done nothing wrong since arriving in the U.S. for Vallee and while he faces some solid competition here he could be more than competitive at a decent price. (3) LUIS ALBERTO N disposed of lesser last week at insane 1/20 odds and the recent import may have more to offer. (6) MAC’S JACKPOT clearly fits with these and would be rated higher had he drawn inside. (2) IMAROCNROLLEGEND N has been doing good things for Team Bongiorno.
Race 9 – NW20000 in last 5 starts
(1) BRIGHT DIAMOND N could not sustain a two-move effort last out trying to overcome the seven hole last out but the move all the way inside should be much more to his liking; top pick. (3) CAVIART LUCA dropped and popped last week but was not overly impressive doing so; sure he can win again but I wouldn’t take a short price. (7) PACING MAJOR N was second best to a good one last out and is clearly heading in the right direction for Tritton but the post hurts. (2) RONNIES ROCKET gets class relief and can land a minor award from this inside spot.
Race 10 – NW20000 in last 5 starts
(1) I’M SOME GRADUATE gets needed class and post relief and sure seems logical here for Brennan and Burke. (4) ACTING OUT went through the motions last week from post eight versus better; he gets a better spot tonight and goes back to Bartlett. (5) CHRISTEN ME N has been racing well recently and the Lance Hudson trained veteran was a winner last time Stratton drove. (6) TYMAL PEACEMAKER has generally been racing well for Lachance and should be able to land at least a small share.
Race 11 – NW30000 in last 5 starts
(3) MACH N CHEESE finally put it all together with last week’s solid uncovered score and the 4-year-old seems talented enough to double up versus some legit rivals. (1) DANCIN DRAGON controlled them from start to finish last out and is clearly capable of repeating from the best post. (5) AMERICAN BOY N has been holding his own recently with better and fits well here. (2) BEACH BOOGIE was a very well-meant winner last week and he’ll have to be even better tonight to repeat.
