2019 STATS: 340 - 799 / $1,535.70 (-$62.30)
BEST BETS: 39 - 69 / $115.50 (-$22.50)
Best Bet: HITMAN HILL (9th)
Spot Play: DANCIN DRAGON (8th)
Race 1 – NW10000 in last 5 starts
(5) OUR ZAK WHITBY A is an inconsistent type but he did rally well last week after missing time and the import should offer a halfway decent price; driver Larry Stalbaum is 1 for 90 somehow on the season but we all know he’s much better than that. (4) TWIN B TUFFENUFF was a solid second last week to the classy winner but he’ll probably be odds-on tonight which seems tough to take. (3) COUGAR HALL returns locally off a win at The Meadowlands and did race well when last at Yonkers; player. (8) SPORTS COLUMN does fit here but never got involved from the eight hole last week and lands in a similar spot tonight; maybe underneath?
Race 2 – NW30000 in last 5 starts
(1) IN SECRET takes a needed drop from the Open ranks and draws the best post; Burke-trained veteran may have a tactical advantage on interesting shipper (3) MUSCLE M UP. The latter has been facing some of the best trotters in the lane and the Svanstedt trainee should fit well here using the NW10 lifetime condition. (5) LINDSEY’S PRIDE transitioned nicely from the NW conditioned ranks with last week’s win; he looks for six of seven on the season. (6) MOSTINTERESTINGMAN would normally be a big-time player at this level but he meets some tough ones tonight.
Race 3 - $40,000 Claiming
(2) HIGHLAND TARTAN finally gets some post relief off a series of impossible trips and that makes the DiDomenico trainee the one to beat tonight. (3) STOLEN CAR has been very live off the Carmine Fusco claim and the veteran looms a large threat. (1) PERFECTLY CLOSE enters another new barn via claim and he’s been sharp. (5) MACH TIME N seemed ambitiously placed at this level two back but he’s held his own.
Race 4 – NW20000 in last 5 starts
(4) OURLITTLEGENERAL A was lost at the back of the pack in his last two local tries from outside posts but the Allard trainee lands in a better spot and could offer a touch of value. (1) MILITARY MASTER A did show some life in that strange race last week and now moves all the way inside; Bartlett picks up the catch-drive and he has a legit change but will probably be overbet. (3) SPORTS BETTOR should be saving ground close to the action and that can land him a share. (6) BLOOD BROTHER hasn’t won in quite some time but he’s been going well lately; include.
Race 5 – NW20000 in last 5 starts
(6) BLATANTLY BEST was no good in his last start but had been going well in prior efforts; veteran fits well with this type and will pay a decent price should he happen to rebound. (1) THOR DE VIE was a wire-to-wire winner from the rail when last at this level; short price looming. (2) CAPOZZO doesn’t win often but is usually close-up, especially from inside posts. (3) DECISION DAY may be best of the rest from this spot.
Race 6 – Open Handicap Pace
(4) SCOTT ROCKS won the “four through eight” draw and that puts him in a good, winning spot. Oakes trainee has been razor-sharp. (5) THE REAL ONE always needs a little help but he should be coming at the end. (1) THE DOWNTOWN BUS beat age-restricted foes last out and he lands the best post; pocket trip? (3) GRATIAN HANOVER is best a level or two down but he can land a share from this spot.
Race 7 – Open Handicap Trot
(8) SIX PACK is rightfully assigned post eight and he’s supposed to beat these, no? I’m sure Svanstedt won’t be messing around in this $46K race. (7) EYE OFA TIGER AS went wire to wire last out at a huge price and Bartlett sticks with him over a couple of other live ones; does he show speed again? (5) WESLYNN DANCER has made a live living on the stakes circuit and the mare was a winner when last seen here. (1) NEW HEAVEN can save ground and hopefully is still sharp enough to land a share.
Race 8 – 4YO Open Handicap
(3) DANCIN DRAGON did the best he could from the eight hole last out but was a powerful winner the start prior; post relief gives him a legit chance here. (4) TURBO HILL has a speed break surrounded by two solid second-place efforts; player. (5) AMERICAN HISTORY has plenty of talent but the Alagna trainee is still winless on the year; what price is he worth from this spot? (1) ART DANCER gets a favorable post assignment and he’s been right there in all recent.
Race 9 – NW20000 in last 5 starts
(1) HITMAN HILL returns locally off some sizzling efforts at Pocono and he’ll likely be controlling the action. (4) MACH IT SO successfully dropped and popped last week and the veteran obviously has the class to compete here. (5) GREAT VINTAGE gets class relief but also the top two tough ones inside of him; maybe he can be best of the rest. (2) ODDS ON DELRAY went a tough trip last week; obviously smooth sailing can net him a share.
Race 10 – NW30000 in last 5 starts
(4) MACHIATTO A failed to get involved last week, ending his modest win streak; Team Bongiorno trainee lands a bit better post this time. (3) MAC’S JACKPOT was a sick scratch as my best bet last Saturday; it that doesn’t bother you, fire away! (1) TOATSMYGOATS may have tailed off a bit but he’s still speed from the rail. (5) BO MACH was much better last week in his second start for new connections.
Race 11 – NW32600 in last 5 starts
(2) MICKY GEE N gets some money off his card by virtue of a string of awful post assignments but the only problem is he’ll be wickedly overbet. and he loses his regular pilot. In theory, he is supposed to win this race, however. (3) SOMEWHERE IN L A was Bartlett’s choice over the top one and he seems to still have something left in the tank to be competitive here. (4) IMAROCNROLLLEGEND N makes his debut for Team Bongiorno off what looks like a private purchase; don’t ignore him. (1) IDEAL COWBOY steps up sharp with speed and the rail.
Race 12 – NW20000 in last 5 starts
(1) LIGHTNING ONMYFEET gets a free ride off last week’s win, draws best and doesn’t meet the strongest of fields; trip will likely be different but the result could be the same. (6) DOCTOR BUTCH keeps Bartlett and it wouldn’t shock me if he tried to get aggressive early from this spot; watch the board, I guess. (4) FINE DIAMOND is probably best a level down but he will be a good price to consider. (2) CROCKETS CULLEN N hit the board here in a similar spot four back and he returns off a win at Philly.
