Yonkers: Saturday 7/28 Analysis

Matt Rose|Jul 26, 2018

Best Bet: SOMEWHERE IN L A (11th)

Spot Play: QUICK ASA TRICK N (1st)

MEET STATS: 300 - 848 / $1,693.20

BEST BETS: 41 - 72 / $134.60

Race 1

(5) QUICK ASA TRICK N finally lands a better post after a series of impossible spots and he was Bartlett's choice; I suspect the Cassar trainee will be firing hard off the gate. (4) SPORTSKEEPER was a good second two back at this level. (2) SECRECY jogged against cheaper last out and he should be good enough to land a share versus this type.

Race 2

(3) CAIVART REAGAN gets class and post relief, and is also reunited with Holland, who has already won twice with the versatile gelding this year. (1) DURANT was a good third versus $40K claimers in his last local start; big threat from the best post. (2) ALBERTO CONTADOR N just isn't sharp now, but I figure it's only a matter of time before he gets good again; include on the ticket.

Race 3

(3) SOLO STORY has just been racing evenly in most of his recent efforts but he does seem capable at this level and this field has a ton of question marks. (1) WINNING LINC was better last out after saving ground and he should be ready to go from this spot for Bartlett/Banca. (2) PERSISTENT THREAT A qualified back effortlessly after making those two breaks; he gets class and post relief tonight.

Race 4

(7) CHRISTEN ME N raced well in his debut for new connections, then faltered badly against some tough ones out of town; he may need some help from this spot but the classy veteran deserves top billing. (3) LACHIE MAGUIRE N has had a solid year and he picks up Bartlett in his local return looking for two straight. (5) LORD OF MISRULE is back at the level of his last win and Brennan drove that night as well.

Race 5

(5) TAKE IT BACK TERRY is back in fighting form and he has plenty of back class to handle these. (2) SPEAKING OUT has been super in two starts off the Alexander claim and he should offer some value on the move up and the switch to Siegelman. (4) TRAVEL PLAYLIST has come back sharp this season for Erv Miller.

Race 6

(4) DOCTOR BUTCH may be a bit of an unconventional selection stepping up to the Open ranks but he's been razor-sharp in his last three and lands a good midpack post in this tough-to-figure event. (6) AMERICANPRIMETIME figures to be leaving the gate hard and can carry his speed a long way. (8) BIT OF A LEGEND is always a question mark when stuck all the way outside but it's impossible to completely dismiss him.

Race 7

(1) WESTERN DYNASTY returns to Yonkers off a no-chance try upstate and he was a sharp winner when last at this level. (2) KILLER MARTINI did a good job to pick up a small share in the Gerrity; gelding sometimes needs things to go his way trip-wise but he certainly is capable here. (5) MISTER DAYTONA N made some uncharacteristic breaks last week, perhaps due to the off track, but his prior form was solid.

Race 8

(4) IMA TRAGEDY N faces a questionable field of $40K claimers and was a good winner versus similar last month flashing both early and late speed. (6) ONE THROUGH TEN has solid early foot which always puts him into play. (1) DEMOCRACY N paced just evenly last week sitting the rail but he gets another crack from the best post.

Race 9

(3) TECHTOR HANOVER was second best to a sharp winner last week and he clearly looks like the one to beat from this spot. (7) TORRID BROMAC N doesn't always fire from outside posts but he's certainly a player with this type and could add some value. (1) MACH PRIDE draws best but is a bit on the inconsistent side.

Race 10

(4) CHUCARO ACERO BC has steadily climbed the class ladder since moving to the Banca barn and while I'm not sure he's really a 40 claimer I'll give him a try with the return to Bartlett. (3) CHEYENNE JEFFREY is up in class off the claim off a razor-sharp effort. (2) STOLEN CAR was a pocket-rocket winner last week and is certainly capable of repeating.

Race 11

(4) SOMEWHERE IN L A takes a meaningful drop in class and is tough to go against in this spot. (2) RONNY BUGATTI gets Stratton back in the bike and draws well; exacta candidate. (5) SIR PUGSLEY has been very live in three starts since moving to the Burke barn.

Race 12

(5) GRATIAN HANOVER did well to rally for a small share from a tough spot last week and the Team Bongiorno charge can be more involved tonight. (1) DON'TCALLMEFRANCIS put in a sharp two-move speed effort last week to defeat one notch lesser and he's a threat to take these all the way. (6) MCERLEAN is proven with these and has been good for an extended period of time but the outside spot hurts.
