Yonkers: Saturday 5/25 Analysis

Matt Rose|May 23, 2019
Yonkers logo

Best Bet: PROVOCATIVEPRINCEN (1st)

Spot Play: MACH IT SO (12th)

MEET STATS: 185 - 517 / $958.00 (-$76.00)

BEST BETS: 27 - 45 / $79.80 (-$10.20)

Race 1

(4) PROVOCATIVEPRINCEN raced fine from the back of the pack in the his last two facing better but he simply had no shot; Tritton-trained veteran still pays his way winning from spots such as this. (5) MR HASANI N raced very well in defeat last week and he's another classy vet who fits perfectly at this level. (7) RANCOUSY fits the model of the top two, always bringing a solid effort versus this type but the outside post may be too much to overcome.

Race 2

(8) TOATSMYGOATS goes back to Allard via claim and his only off-the-board effort in recent memory was when he was tortured on the front end; expect Dube to be blasting and if he can clear the front he'll be trouble. (5) PICKLED PREACHER has been very sharp, including three back for these connections; he steps up in class and I guess we'll find out if he can go with the $40K claimers. (4) HIGHLAND TARTAN has been a nice earner since moving to the DiDomenico barn via claim; he should come away with another share tonight.

Race 3

(5) FEELING CAM LUCKY has been close up in practically off of his 2019 starts but is still shut out of the win column this year; Garcia-Herrera trainee has good early speed and may have a clear path to the front. (2) LACHIE MAGUIRE N seems to have found his stride out of town and he's been very competitive with better than these in the past. (1) ST LADS NEPTUNE returns locally with some class relief and lands the best post; 4-year-old will find his winning level soon.

Race 4

(3) BALLERAT BOOMERANG was well-meant from the eight hole in his last local try and returns here off a solid effort at Pocono; Surick trainee picks up Dave Miller and seems the one to beat. (1) MAJOR BUCKS has been close up in all recent efforts; drawing another good post makes this gelding a major player. (5) STARS ALIGN A was going nowhere versus better in his last start; Allard trainee should be more competitive here.

Race 5

(6) SUNFIRE BLUE CHIP couldn't sustain a two-move effort in his local return but the classy ex-Takter millionaire still seems more than capable with this type. (2) SCOTT ROCKS still worries me when he throws in those occasional erratic local efforts but he's been looking fine recently and and move inside helps immensely. (1) RUNRUNJIMMYDUNN N was well-handled to victory versus lesser and the recent import may have another class in him.

Race 6

(3) WESLYNN DANCER sure looked like she was bothered in her last local try three back and can be excused for going offstride; she followed that up with two solid on-the-board finishes out of town versus stakes types and when she behaves herself she's a legit Open trotter. (7) EYE OFA TIGER AS went a tough trip last week and was still only beaten less than three lengths; Lorentzon trainee is stuck outside again but remains sharp. (4) SWANSEA was finally allowed a realistic post position last week and took full advantage with the solid win; clear threat to repeat.

Race 7

(4) MICKY GEE N paced home in under 27 seconds last week to pick up a small share in a nice bounce-back effort and the Lance Hudson trainee importantly gets Stratton back in the sulky; import is good enough to go with these. (5) CAVIART LUCA has done little wrong this season and all the Burke trainee does is make money; he wins the outside draw and should be a major factor here. (3) SOMEWHERE IN L A moves in a few slots and is impossible to ignore when mapping out this race.

Race 8

(3) BORDER CONTROL A was a very easy winner in his first start off the barn change to DiDomenico and he may have another class in him; veteran gets top billing in this tough-to-figure race. (2) SHANE ADAM goes back to Bartlett and his busy effort at this level two back wasn't bad. (6) TEXICAN N has clearly seen better days but he'll be a player here with an alert getaway.

Race 9

(3) QUEEN OF THE PRIDE has done nothing wrong so far in her three-year-old season and from this good post draw she's clearly the one to beat in this edition of the Lismore, albeit at a very short price. (4) AS TIME GOES BY took some time to escape NW1 at Philly but her two Yonkers starts have been good; she seems like she's a bit better from slightly off the pace, which will be the case tonight. (7) ROCKN PHILLY hails from connections that know all about winning, but the poor post may limit her to a smaller share.

Race 10

(6) BETTOR'S WISH could not have looked any better winning here last month in a conditioned event and he cruised on the front end in his Rooney elimination. Drawing inside what can be considered his two main rivals is huge and stamps him as the one to beat. (4) BUDDY HILL didn't have much of a resume shipping in but he raced very willingly finishing a close second off a uncovered trip; could he take another big step tonight? (7) BLOOD MONEY was always second best to the top choice in his elim and he's done nothing wrong so far following up his solid two-year-old season; post looms tough, however. (8) AIR FORCE HANOVER was the other elimination winner but could not have been any unluckier with the open draw for the final; also a tough spot for the talented colt.

Race 11

(3) STORMY KROMER hit town and was a very easy winner on the front end versus NW20000 types then proved a bit overmatched in the Open; this is a more realistic spot for the gelding. (1) CHASIN DREAMS did the best he could from the eight hole to finish a distant third; he will obviously be much closer to the action tonight. (7) CHESTNUT SCHOFIELD trotted a clean line in last week's Open and the Allard trainee could rally for a piece.

Race 12

(4) MACH IT SO steps up in class again looking for three straight; he no longer seems to be a top-notch invitational pacer anymore but he should be more than good enough to beat these. (5) NOCTURNAL BLUECHIP took all the money last week but failed to deliver on the front end; prior off-the-pace efforts were solid. (6) THEARTOFCONFUSION A hasn't but in a bad effort in ages and he will be closing late.
