Race 1 - F&M NW2/28000LT Pace
(1) SOMETHING REEL won impressively coming off the qualifier on July 1, and she gets another shot at the NW2 group tonight. Drew the rail to further enhance her prospects. (2) RHODATOLDME is back at this level tonight after taking another shot against the Excelsior A Series at Goshen Historic Track. Was performing well here with three straight thirds before that effort. (7) ADORABELLA makes her way back to Yonkers tonight after racing out of town since 5-20. Just missed in her last local appearance against this same class.
Race 2 - NW5000L5/12500CLM Trot
(2) MARCH AWARENESS has been racing against somewhat better foes over at Pocono and Harrah's Philly in his last three and draws well here in a sensible spot. I'll take a shot with him and Bartlett. (1) CYCLONE MAXIMUS is probably the one to beat dropping and getting the rail, but he started making breaks before a flat qualifier and race in his last two, so he's not totally reliable right now. (7) WHITE PANTS FEVER sticks at this level again off a win and a third in her last two but shifts back outside this time.
Race 3 - NW2/25000LT Pace
(4) MCNULTY Z TAM lords over the Excelsior B Series group right now with four wins in five legs and shifts over to the NW2 group here. Rolled comfortably on June 27 here at Yonkers, and I think catches the right group to win again. (3) JUST WAVE GOODBYE joins the Allard barn tonight, which should get plenty of attention from the public. Didn't show much on July 1 at Yonkers but does get a better post tonight. (2) OREN has been consistently hitting the board since moving to Yonkers but doesn't have a win yet, and I'll take a stand against him.
Race 4 - NW2/25000LT Pace
(5) MEADOWBROOK CROWN appears to be a pretty classy invader in this race. Picked up a check in the sire stakes at Hoosier back on May 31 and raced well at Harrah's Philly as well on June 19 before breaking at Pocono and needing to qualify. (1) ROLAND ONTHERIVER did nicely at Yonkers back in the spring at the NW2 class with a second and two thirds. Returns tonight and gets the rail. (2) GLACIS drops out of the Excelsior A Series to the NW2 grouping tonight. Finished with some interest on June 27 here at Yonkers from last.
Race 5 - F&M NW4/50000LT Pace
(3) TRIPLE DIP shifts back inside to post three in her third start for Allard. Performed well in both starts for him and hopefully she'll break through tonight. (4) MAJOR MAID has been racing okay at the Meadowlands for Abbatiello and returns to Yonkers tonight for the first time since back in May. Knows this level well and should fit. (1) TOPVILLE OLIVIA gives Yonkers another try tonight after rallying for a good win at Pocono on July 7.
Race 6 - NW4/50000LT Pace
(5) HEISMAN PLAYER got a slick drive from Scott Zeron two weeks ago to just miss from post eight at this level. Draws a better post tonight, which should help his chances. (2) DANCIN LOU sticks against NW4's and draws well again after a hard-fought win by a nose last Monday. (4) LIVE LIKE A BOSS rallied for second in his first start for DiDomenico at Harrah's Philly and shifts north tonight. Looks like a definite contender.
Race 7 - F&M NW6/75000LT Pace - $10K GTD Pick 5
(8) SHES PUKKA N draws her usual outside slot tonight, but with the speed she possesses, I don't think she'll have any issues getting spotted either up close or on the lead. Classy mare. (5) DEMI HILL took this group gate-to-wire last Monday, but now will have to deal with my top pick as far as early speed threats. (4) SEZANA N couldn't close on Demi Hill a week ago but held second in another solid effort.
Race 8 - NW10000L5 Pace
(2) MCSPIDEY hasn't seen this low a level in many moons, so he needs to take advantage tonight. Reunited with Stratton and draws well. Anything like that effort three back against better than these would be hard to top for the others. (4) LORD OF MISRULE only owns one win this season but does get to drop down in class tonight and in against a beatable group too. (3) SOMWHERENBROOKLN N was favored at this level on July 6 but couldn't deliver from first-over. A smoother trip tonight would propel his prospects.
Race 9 - NW20000L5 Pace
(3) DON DOMINGO N faded late from first-over on July 5 but returns to the flat mile distance tonight and gets on the gate in post three instead of having a trailing post. (2) CONTROL TOWER has post relief to work with tonight after a big effort from post six on 7/5. (7) LACHIE MAGUIRE N won the race Control Tower was second in but wound up in post seven for this try, which makes him a play-against, I think.
Race 10 - NW6/75000LT Pace
(2) IDEAL FLIP ran into a tough foe in Rollwithpapajoe last Monday but finished well from first-over and was third. Gets away from that tough an opponent tonight and has another inside post to work with. (5) DA DELIGHTFUL had an adventure on the far turn on July 1 and was placed for causing interference. Silva opted to qualify him on 7-5, and he was a solid second. I wouldn't be surprised to see Dube be very aggressive tonight and go right to the engine. (7) CRUSADES is a recent addition to the Burke barn. Just got tagged on the wire at this level when racing for the Harmon stable on 6-17.
Race 11 - NW8/117000LT / NW6 Drawn Inside Pace
(4) RONNIE'S ROCKET is in some sneaky-good form, I think, with some strong performances from terrible posts. Won the last time he wasn't saddled with post seven or post eight back on June 17, and gets to start from the four-hole tonight. (6) LETS ROLL overcame post ten nicely last time out at the Meadowlands, picking up a second. Owns a win at Yonkers last year in an Excelsior A Series division. (2) TWIN B TUFFENUFF is another one in this race getting some post relief as he was stuck with the six and the seven in his last two tries at this level. Drops out of a 4-year-old open for this try.
