Race 1 - F&M NW2/25000LT Pace
A wide-open race to start and I'll go with (5) PRINCESS GLYDANA on the drop down from NW4 at Pocono and Yonkers to NW2 tonight. She has raced at this level before in Westchester, finishing third, but that was on one of those Mondays where the wind was blowing seriously, and Ponder The Odds got loose. (1) KRISTINE K probably has a big future in the breeding shed being a three-quarter sister to A Rocknroll Dance, but she's been good on the track for trainer/driver Stratton since moving east. (2) HOOPLA HANOVER has a try in the Excelsior 'A' Series that stands out a bit as far as company kept and did get Austin Siegelman's nod over my top pick.
Race 2 - NW5000L5/12500CLM Trot
(2) BROADWAY PROMISE gets in what looks to be a now-or-never spot for the first win this season, dropping to the bottom level after appearances against better both at Yonkers and Harrah's Philly. (1) KING CAST is sort of in the same boat, hiking way down the class ladder. Had problems with broken equipment at the Meadowlands on Friday night (5-31), so that's a throw-out line. That race from 5-3 against NW20000L5's in Westchester would probably be enough. (6) MIGHTY NICKY hasn't fired since moving into the Bongiorno barn but that could easily change tonight as he also finds easier company.
Race 3 - F&M NW2/31500LT Pace
(2) DIXIE STAR N is a new Down Under invader for Team Tritton. Qualified well enough behind a good one in Babes Dig Me and catches a beatable field in her debut. (8) MCCOOLEN has been battling NW3's and NW4's in Pennsylvania, so this is likely an easier spot, but obviously does have the bad draw to overcome. (1) SAVANNAH SMILES is a first-timer for Nick Surick, which will likely draw plenty of attention. Hasn't won this year and is only 1-for-23.
Race 4 - NW2/25000LT Pace
(6) DANCIN LOU overwhelmed NW2's from post nine at Pocono and now tries Yonkers in the same class. Connections had him in Pennsylvania Sire Stakes races to kick off his season, so they must have thought highly of him. (4) OREN ships east from Hawthorne Racecourse off two straight wins. Shows no half-mile track experience but 1:53 2/5 is a good mile over that track. Sears ends up with the drive after Bartlett opted off. (8) MINNIE VINNIE was second in the Rooney and third in the Milstein last year against Open company, so he has some Grand Circuit chops on his resume. Got a race under his belt at Plainridge off the layoff, but draws outside here.
Race 5 - NW2/25000LT Pace
(4) ROCKME ROLLME raced well in the Wiggle It Jiggleit Series at the Meadowlands and has been in against some good ones in the Pennsylvania Stallion Series since. Much easier spot here. (5) COOL YOUR HEELS finished a good second at Yonkers against NW2 on 5-20 and was Bartlett's choice tonight. (1) CAVIART CALE was unraced last year but was tackling Excelsior 'A' company most recently, showing some confidence by the connections. Nice maiden-breaker at Pocono on 5-6 with a big rally.
Race 6 - NW6/75000LT Pace
(3) DA DELIGHTFUL moved up again and won again, so I'll stay on his train tonight. Reunited with Dube this evening. (2) ROLLWITHPAPAJOE made the Rooney final and got bet some in the final, but made a costly break. Also owns a New York Sire Stakes win this year, but DA Delightful is a new challenge to face. Sears goes on tonight. (1) AMERICAN ADMIRAL beats stakes company at Yonkers on 5-11 but then was defeated by DA Delightful and folded in the Excelsior Series up at Saratoga. Got the best of the draw and retains Bartlett.
Race 7 - F&M NW4/50000LT - $10K GTD Pick 5
(8) SEZANA N dominated in her U.S. debut up at Saratoga and gives Yonkers a pari-mutuel try tonight, having qualified here back on 5-17. Stratton sticks over two others, a definite vote of confidence from the outside post. (3) DESTINY HANOVER rallied nicely for second when last seen at Yonkers on 5-20. Was an even sixth against NW5 at Harrah's Philly, but returns to the NW4 class here. (5) CHARMS LIL SIS beat Destiny Hanover in that even on May 20, but the posts are reversed tonight. Picked up a good second at Pocono while Yonkers wasn't racing.
Race 8 - NW20000L5 Pace
(2) PERFECT BET gave the Great Northeast Open Series a try and was a good fourth against the likes of the red-hot None Bettor A. Returns to Yonkers tonight in the same class he beat on May 24. (4) SOMEWHERE FANCY receives some post relief tonight after having the seven in his last appearance at Yonkers and Brennan stays aboard. (10) LACHIE MAGUIRE N needs a smooth journey from the trailing post but can definitely win if he gets one. Was favored at this level on May 25.
Race 9 - NW4/50000LT Pace
(6) FABRICE HANOVER has been picking up checks against the top-level Pennsylvania Sire Stakes colts, racing and finishing his miles well to boot. Brennan got the call. (7) HEISMAN PLAYER crunched NW3's at Harrah's Philly and tries Yonkers tonight in what seems to be a reasonable spot. (1) BEATINGTHEODDS was second against NW2's at Yonkers on 5-13 but bounced back to beat NW3's at Harrah's Philly in his next start. Moves up the ladder to NW4 in Westchester tonight, but is aided by having the pole position.
Race 10 - F&M NW6/75000LT Pace
(7) SHEBANG N returned off the layoff to win back on 4-29 but then was scratched and raced just okay in Pennsylvania after that, having the misfortune of running into the streaking Reclamation at Pocono on 5-28 to boot. Picks up Dexter Dunn tonight in her Yonkers return and maybe she'll be ready for a big effort in her third start back off the scratch. (4) SO LONG DARLING has been pretty good at this level, with a best result of second on 5-13. (3) IDEAL CLASSIC fits that bill as well as she hasn't been able to win but has hit the board against the NW6's with regularity.
Race 11 - NW6/75000LT/NW10000LT D.O. Pace
(8) BENHOPE RULZ N draws the far outside post but has been racing against preferred company at Yonkers and then a NW20000L5 at Harrah's Philly in his first two U.S. starts. I'll hope Vallee can find him a spot and a clean trip. (2) BENJI'S BEST had all sorts of pace through the lane from way back on 6-1 at the Meadowlands. Gives Yonkers another try tonight, shifting out of claimers. (7) ARAMIS N was in the same race at Benji's Best at the Meadowlands and also closed nicely. Gets to race against NW6 company in his Westchester return after mainly trying NW8's recently.
Race 12 - F&M NW8/100000LT Pace
(5) DIBABA N was no match for the top-caliber sophomore pacing filly Tall Drink Hanover at the Meadowlands on 5-24 but finished a good second. Raced once at Yonkers, picking up a rallying runner-up result in the NW20000L5 class. (4) LINE DANCER changes classes tonight, exiting the NW20000L5 and NW30000L5 group to compete against NW8's tonight. Was in good form before stepping up to the NW30000L5 level. (6) ROSE RUN TONI raced against males on 6-6 at Plainridge, so I'm totally dismissing that race. Both her races against NW8 in Westchester last month were very solid.
