Yonkers: Monday 2/3 Analysis

Greg Reinhart|Jan 31, 2020
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 32 - 99 / $175.30 (-$22.70)
BEST BETS: 5 - 9 / $15.30 (-$2.70)
SPOT PLAYS: 1 - 9 / $10.80 (-$7.20)
BEST BET-
P L MUNSON (4th)
SPOT PLAY- BIG BAD BILL (6th)
Race 1 - 15000CLM Pace
(2) WIND BLAST improved quite a bit in his second start for Allard and with the change back to racing off-the-pace. He keeps Marohn Jr. here and hopefully can finish one spot higher than he did last Monday. (3) DEERFIELD BEACH was first-over in the third quarter into a hot pace and tired a week ago. Bartlett stays aboard and maybe he can find him a smoother trip on this occasion. (1) CANBEC KINGKAZIMIR receives some post relief for this race after having the seven and the five in his last pair. He also gets reunited with Joe Bongiorno.
Race 2 - NW2/25000LT Pace
(1) JOHNNY CHIMPO has been racing better since going to trainer Richie Johnson. He closed nicely to get third in his last appearance locally, then picked up a confidence-building win down at Freehold. This looks like probably the weakest group he's faced so far at Yonkers. (2) AMERICAN VISION raced conservatively back on January 20 from an outside post but slides down to post two tonight. He showed enough early foot at the Meadowlands that I think he can follow in and hit the board. (7) MACHING TIME was supposed to make his Yonkers debut on the 13th of January but was scratched sick. He qualified decently enough at Freehold, and can maybe rally to get a piece. Note that driver George Brennan is a co-owner.
Race 3 - NW6/75000LT Pace
(5) GLOBALDOMINATION N rallied nicely but ran out of track and had to settle for second a week ago. He draws a mid-pack post this time, so I don't think he'll be quite so far back and can probably chase them down. (6) TAP TAP TAP got the jump on my top pick last week and held on in the lane. He'll likely be going forward off the gate again and is certainly a threat given his consistency. (1) BLACKLIGHT surely needed last week's race given he hadn't made a pari-mutuel start since back in October when he won over NW4's locally. He moves to the pole position tonight.
Race 4 - NW3/39000LT Pace
(3) P L MUNSON grabbed a fourth from post eight last week against NW4's and now draws better and races against NW3's instead this time. Definitely looks logical. (4) BETTER UP also gets to take a crack at this NW3 class rather than bumping into the NW4's. Any repeat of that solid second-place finish to Globaldomination N two back would make him a big threat. (2) CRUSHER Q invades from The Meadows and enters the Rob Harmon barn. He had a good run of success on the half-mile track out at Northfield Park last year, and I think he fits here as he gets out of those winners of four but non-winners of six classes out in Pennsylvania.
Race 5 - NW5000L5 Pace
(5) ZACH MAGUIRE N was dispatched as the favorite against NW7500L5's on 1-24 and wound up third from first-up. He receives additional class relief here as he slides down to the bottom level, and I will give him a shot. (2) FIRENGLOW A also gets to retreat to the NW5000L5 class after facing much stronger foes at various racetracks as of late. Stratton got to know him in his last race and drives again here. (6) GHOST DANCE made just ten starts in 2019 and was winless. His qualifier at Yonkers on the 24th of January looks good, and he's definitely a threat, but I will attempt to knock him off from an outside post and with the gap his schedule.
Race 6 - NW5000L5 Pace
(1) BIG BAD BILL keeps finishing up his miles well over at the Meadowlands but without much in the way of results to show for it. He gives Yonkers a try tonight from the inside slot, and maybe Goodell can keep him in the hunt and then pounce in the late going. (3) PAPRIKE BLUE CHIP has been working his way down the class ladder at Freehold and ships north to Yonkers for this appearance. He cut the mile and was second against NW5000L5's last time out in New Jersey. (2) SHANE ADAM headed to the sidelines for a freshening after taking a runner-up finish as the favorite at this same level back on the 21st of November. The qualifier was just okay, but it wouldn't take much improvement to contend.
Race 7 - NW7500L5/Winners of NW5000L5 in Last Start Pace
(2) MAROMA BEACH raced off-the-pace and finished up well at the Meadowlands in his last start and now gives Yonkers a try. That victory on 12-15 at Harrah's Philly sticks out, and that was at a higher class level than this. (1) VANQUISHED N scored a nice, rallying win last Monday against NW5000L5's and now begins the hike back up the ladder. He was Stratton's choice of several in here and was second against NW7500L5's two back. (4) TRENTE DEO had a strong closing kick after he got clearance a week ago and chased down a loose leader to win. He also takes a step up here, but I think remains a usable option.
Race 8 - NW4/50000LT Pace
(5) TELLITSABB really caught the eye the way he crunched a quality competitor in Sugar Shock last week off the pocket trip, and he gets to race against NW4's again here. Kakaley is not here, so Joe Bongiorno gets the live call. (3) CLOUDBREAK didn't show much in his debut for DiDomenico a week ago, but he gets some post relief here, and I'll expect an improved performance. (1) A STUD NAMED SAM has yet to win since joining the Allard camp, but he moves back to the pole position and has kicked home with two straight sub 28 second final quarters. I'll look for him to follow in and hit the board.
Race 9 - NW7500L5/Winners of NW5000L5 in Last Start Pace
(4) TREASURE MACH showed speed last Monday, but then the pocket spot that he was looking for closed up, and he got parked out instead. I'll hope that didn't take too much out of him and stick him back on top on the slight drop in class. (2) SENIOR MARKET put in some nice efforts back in December against similar-type foes to these with Marohn Jr. driving him down at Freehold, and they're reunited here. Might offer some value. (3) SECRECY stepped up for one try against NW10000L5's and now retreats back to the NW7500L5 level. He was an even fifth when last seen in this class two back, but did get some wagering attention in that contest.
Race 10 - NW10000L5/Winners of NW7500L5 in Last Start Pace
(2) MACHIAVELLI returns to Yonkers for this start after taking second in the preferred handicap at Freehold most recently. He was last in Westchester on the 16th of December where was the runner-up in a NW15500L5 event, so this is an easier spot than that contest. Trainer Nick Surick's horses that were a little cold to start the meet seem to all be racing better now also. (4) REDBANK BLAZE A drops a notch after a rallying fourth against NW15000L5's most recently. He gets class relief and some post relief off that effort. (7) KENRICK N probably isn't a win threat in this spot, but did wind up with Bartlett at scratch time, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him gun out of there like Greg Merton did with the horse back on 1-6.
Race 11 - NW5000L5 Pace
(1) IDEAL ONE A remains winless since coming over from Australia, but probably gets his best shot yet to score that elusive victory, starting from the pole position on the drop to the NW5000L5 class. (6) STOLEN CAR should take plenty of wagering attention as he kept Bartlett and also moves down to the bottom level. I expect the aggressive handling to continue. (5) RUNHAPPY TEN put in a big first-up effort two back to finish second in a NW5000L5 event. Skowyra tried to get Bartlett back in the bike, but he opted for Stolen Car.
Race 12 - NW15000L5/Winners of NW10000L5 in Last Start Pace
(3) CAPOZZO usually is more of a threat to finish underneath than in the win spot, but he does meet up with a beatable group here with some class relief. (4) ST LADS NEPTUNE makes his second start back off a several month layoff tonight. He didn't make many starts a season ago, but that rallying fifth in a leg of the Graduate Series over at the Meadowlands shows what kind of talent this guy has at his best. (1) IDEAL COWBOY looks like the other logical one here as he draws well again and should be in play.
