Race 1 - NW3/30000LT Pace
(6) ROCZEN HANOVER has a start over the track now and drops from facing the likes of the ultra-impressive Globaldomination N to this NW3. Jordan Stratton also drives this week, taking over for his brother Cory. (4) MOTIVE HANOVER easily handled NW2's on the 9th of December but has found the NW 4's a bit tough. He slides into this seldom-used condition tonight, and I'm sure the connections would like to take advantage. (1) JONAH put in a better effort last Monday with a change in tactics to an off-the-pace approach. He drew the pole position this time, so maybe Marohn Jr. will switch it up again.
Race 2 - NW7500L5/Winners of NW5000L5 in Last Start Pace
(5) OUR REGAL IDEAL N keeps finishing well but has only come up with some fourth-place finishes to show for it locally. He draws a little better post tonight, starting from the five-hole instead of the seven, and maybe that'll keep him a little closer to the action. (1) STOLEN CAR got an aggressive drive from Bartlett last week but faded to finish third. He has the pole position tonight and was Jason's choice in here. (4) MACHLICIOUS has another new trainer this week as Godinez claimed him and now moves him to this class. He didn't have much luck from first-up against a well-meant Gokudo Hanover, but if he sits in and can shake loose or get covered this time, he could be dangerous.
Race 3 - NW5000L5 Pace
(3) ODDS ON COLUMBUS finished up very well from off-the-pace at the Meadowlands on January 18 and now ships back to Yonkers at the bottom level. He hasn't been able to win yet since joining the DiDomenico barn, but this looks like a possible spot for that to happen. (4) VANQUISHED N charged home to finish second last Monday against NW7500L5's and now drops again. He's been win-shy for an extended period of time, so I'll slot him second. (1) SHADOW PLACE gets both class and post relief in this spot. He won at Monticello in his third start back off an extended layoff and then raced conservatively from an outside post last time, so he definitely merits consideration from the pole position.
Race 4 - NW5000L5 Pace
(2) BANK SEA got used hard through the mile last Monday and still hung around for fourth. Marohn Jr. drives from an inside post on the drop down in class tonight and any smoother journey makes him very logical. (1) BRACKLEY BEACH has been in deep water against NW6's locally, so this NW5000L5 class should be a better spot for him. He also kept Bartlett in the bike. (5) BARIMAH A makes his way back to Westchester tonight after facing some strong competition at the Meadowlands. He has a good history at Yonkers and has won at way higher class levels than this in the past.
Race 5 - NW5000L5 Pace
(2) TRENTE DEO ships in from Ohio for Allard. I think his lines in those classes out there should hold up well here, and he's won several times on half-mile tracks before at Freehold and Ocean Downs. (5) TWIN B JAYS didn't have much excuse when he settled for second after cutting an easy tempo at the Meadowlands, but it's hard to ignore anything being sent out by trainer Harris right now. (1) ALEPPO HANOVER closed from last to third in the final quarter on the 17th of January against $20,000 claimers and now moves over to the NW5000L5 group with significant post relief to go with it.
Race 6 - 15000CLM Pace
(1) WILD AGAIN won three straight in November and then headed for a freshening after a tiring effort against $20,000 claimers on the 13th of December. He qualified well enough from an outside post at Freehold and Dube retains the drive after handling him that day. (3) WIND BLAST was part of an early skirmish for the lead and retreated in the final quarter in his first start for Allard. Rene drops him here and goes to Marohn Jr., who has won with the horse recently. I expect him to switch back to the off-the-pace style also. (6) ARI ALLSTAR owns two consecutive victories and meets up with $15,000 claimers again here. I would think Brennan will go forward with him again and take his chances.
Race 7 - NW4/50000LT Pace
(4) SUGAR SHOCK raced quite well two weeks ago; he just had the misfortune of meeting up with Globaldomation N. He gets away from that foe tonight, and I think he can control this race on the lead and wire this group. (6) CLOUDBREAK has made every start in his career for Ray Schnittker until tonight when DiDomenico takes over. He also adds Brennan on the barn change, and I expect some more aggressive handling. (3) BETTER UP is another horse who doesn't have to deal with Globaldomination N, but his two-for-38 win record and tendency to finish underneath means I have to slot him here.
Race 8 - NW7500L5/Winners of NW5000L5 in Last Start Pace
(7) SPECTRUM grabbed live cover to sit second-over on the far turn last Monday but put in some steps and lost his momentum. Now that Banca's had a start with him and Bartlett knows him better, I expect him to make no mistakes tonight on the change to this class. (5) DREAM OF LUCK receives some additional class relief in this spot after some recent good efforts against NW15000L5's and NW10000L5's. Trainer Chris Height listed Bartlett, but he went with my top pick, so Brent Holland takes over. (3) SPORTSKEEPER showed some improvement on 1-18 against NW10000L5's and now drops down a notch. Ruiz had a winner on Tuesday and another one on Thursday, so his barn might be coming around.
Race 9 - NW10000L5/Winners of NW7500L5 in Last Start Pace
(3) TREASURE MACH lands an inside post this time after having the six and the eight in his two local appearances. That should put him in the game for a high-percentage barn. (6) TIGER BARON just squeezes into this class by a couple hundred dollars. He put in a strong first-over bid against a NW15000L5 group that included an open-caliber horse in Bettors Fire N last Monday, so this should be a better spot. (1) ALBERTO CONTADOR N steps up again but should be full of confidence off two straight wins and should be close to the pace again from the pole position.
Race 10 - NW6/75000LT Pace
(8) GLOBALDOMINATION N is the most visually-impressive horse I've seen at the meet so far, and while he does move up and start from the outside post here, I think there's a chance he could leave to get a seat and come rallying home to beat them. (5) TAP TAP TAP rarely throws a bad race, though he did have to settle for second as the heavy favorite in his last crack at NW6's on January 6. (2) APEX SEELSTER couldn't withstand the first-over bid of Silas Seelster last Monday, but it was another quality effort, and he does own a victory over the NW6 class two back.
