Race 1 - 12500-15000CLM HCP Pace
(4) TOWNSLIGHT HANOVER rallied to collect a third-place finish against $20,000 claimers on January 13 and now drops in class. He was pretty light in the win column last year, but I think this is a nice spot for him to grab a win. (6) RANSOM DEMAND picked up where he left off in 2019 by winning his first start of this season on 1-9. He steps up a notch here but appropriately so and I imagine Holland will be going forward with him. (1) HORSING AROUND gets the pole tonight as the lone $12,500 claimer in here. He's in good form with a second and a third in his two 2020 efforts, and I think he can follow in for a piece.
Race 2 - NW2/25000LT Pace
(1) CAPTAIN CUT THROAT was drively aggressively first-over a week ago and tired after getting hung out by the leader. He retains the pole position and switches pilots to Bongiorno, and I'll look for a smoother journey tonight for the son of Captaintreacherous. (2) ISSA HORSE finished with interest in the same event my top pick exits, getting up for second. He now has a 0-for-20 lifetime record, but meets up with a field here where he could break through. (4) FRISKY PEDRO dropped back to NW2 last Monday but could only manage a third. He loses Bartlett tonight, with Stratton going in the bike.
Race 3 - 20000CLM Pace
(3) MACHLICIOUS sat off the pace and then rallied nicely in the lane to get a runner-up finish last Monday. He was claimed by Ruiz out of that race and sticks at the $20,000 claiming level tonight. I'll give him another shot with Stratton now in the seat from a slightly better post. (7) GOKUDO HANOVER took a big drop to the $20,000 claiming handicap class on 1-10 and delivered an easy win. He races against straight $20,000 claimers tonight but does move outside on the gate to the seven-hole. (2) LET'S FOAL AROUND tired on December 17 and then was raced conservatively from post eight a week ago. He draws much better here, and I expect Bartlett to have him in the game.
Race 4 - NW5000L5 Pace
(3) ALI has raced well in the past when sent down by Luc and Anita Ouellette in Canada to Pat Lachance in the States. He got a good tightener under his belt at the Meadowlands, draws well, and meets a field I think he can make an impact against here. (2) RUNHAPPY TEN seems to be more suited to the half-mile track than he was to the mile oval at the Meadowlands. That was a strong win up at Monticello on January 9, and he gets Bartlett in the bike. (4) FANCY COLT closed a bit in the final quarter from an outside draw on 1-10. He switches over to the bottom condition class in this spot and has post relief.
Race 5 - 12500CLM Pace
(1) JK HEAVEN SENT probably needed that race a week ago given he hadn't made a pari-mutuel start since the 10th of December. He has the pole position again and Goodell is now driving. Hopefully he has the winning strategy. (5) PROLOGUE drops well below the level of the claim in his second start for DiDomenico tonight. He could definitely win, but I'm not willing to take a short price on him. (2) MYIDEALSON N gets a bit of post relief after starting from the five-hole in both of his appearances so far in 2020. He hung around for fourth after a first-over journey last Monday.
Race 6 - NW15100L5/Winners of NW10000L5 in Last Start Pace
(3) BETTORS FIRE N met up with two stout fields at the Meadowlands and now returns to the half-mile track. He was in the Open when last seen at Yonkers on 11-30, so this should be a significantly easier spot for the veteran tonight. I'll look for him to attempt to wire this group. (5) RECORD MACHINE downed a field of $20,000 claimers from first-up last Monday, was claimed by Banca, and now switches over to this class. Bartlett drives. (2) REASONABLE FORCE has been sitting in and finishing well enough to hit the board, and I think he can do the same here from another inside post.
Race 7 - NW5000L5 Pace
(2) MIGHTY MR SHARKEY N got rolling late on January 9 but had to settle for third. He moves to post two in this spot and I'll bank on Marohn Jr. having him much closer to the pace this time. (6) MR PROFETA put in a couple tries at the Meadowlands and now returns to Westchester. He was second in this class back on December 5 and is reunited with Kakaley. (5) NATURAL LEDA was unable to win a race in 2019 but he did take a runner-up finish at long odds against NW5000L5's on 11-26. He probably aimed too high against the $20,000 claimers, and this level is a better fit.
Race 8 - NW7500L5/Winners of NW5000L5 in Last Start Pace
(6) ABRAXAS BLUES A kicked home with interest against NW10000L5's last Monday and now gets some class relief in his third start for DiDomenico. He's out in post six again, but I think Brennan might take a shot and go forward like Pat Berry did in that effort at Freehold two back. (3) VANQUISHED N continues to move down the class ladder here, but was Stratton's choice. (4) ALBERTO CONTADOR N moves up a notch tonight after a victory over NW5000L5's. Cassar has been winning races both locally and at the Meadowlands, and this horse kept Holland over two others in here.
Race 9 - NW7500L5/Winners of NW5000L5 in Last Start Pace
(2) MR RIGHT HANOVER wound up first-over and gave way in his last appearance at the Meadowlands, but he returns to Yonkers in a sensible spot here, scored two of his three wins in 2019 at the track, and draws well. Brent Holland has prior experience driving him and takes over the assignment tonight. (5) PERFECTLY CLOSE looks like the one to probably beat here as he drops a notch off a good second behind a well-meant Rock The Nite most recently. (6) LORD OF MISRULE was in the NW10000L5 class when last seen in Westchester. He hasn't shown much since the break at the Meadowlands on November 22, but this look like a spot where he could possibly wake up.
Race 10 - NW4/50000LT Pace
(6) GLOBALDOMINATION N scored about as impressively as a horse can last Monday, and I'll take him right back since he stays at the NW4 level. (4) BETTER THAN CASH didn't get involved from post seven when last seen on January 6 but has some post relief here. I think those races at Pompano make him a possible fit here, and he did make the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Series Final last season. (5) BETTER UP hasn't been able to win against NW4's and followed in for a fourth behind Globaldomination N a week ago. I'll use underneath only.
Race 11 - NW6/75000LT Pace
(3) SILAS SEELSTER ended up trapped in the pocket a week ago and had to settle for second. He defeated NW6's in eye-catching fashion two back to conclude his 3-year-old season, and I'll hope he has a clean trip tonight. (2) APEX SEELSTER led the way, put in a good effort of his own, and also took advantage of Silas Seelster's traffic woes to prevail. The Allard barn remains hot to start the year, and this guy is looking to go three-for-three in 2020. (4) SPECTRUM is now in Richie Banca's barn off a win down at Dover Downs most recently. Looks like he should fit against these types.
