Yonkers: Daughters of So Surreal sweep Monday's NYSS contests
Racine Bell and So Rude splashed their way to wins in the pair of $77,300 New York Sire Stakes divisions that took place on Monday night at a soggy and sloppy Yonkers Raceway.
The first split was delayed for a while due to a heavy thunderstorm that moved over the track. After the weather cleared enough for the card to resume, Racine Bell (Jason Bartlett) left out quickly for post two but would give way to Alleyesonme As (Scott Zeron) before the 27 second opening quarter. Alleyesonme As continued to show the way to a 56 second half and a 1:24 3/5 three-quarters, with Dragon Roll (Dexter Dunn) coming first-up from third as they raced in the backstretch the final time.
In the lane Alleyesonme As came under pressure on the inside from Racine Bell and on the outside from Dragon Roll, and she would weaken, leaving the race to be decided between the other two. Racine Bell and Dragon Roll dueled to the wire, but Racine Bell got the win on this night, prevailing by a neck in 1:53 3/5. Galleria Gal (Tyler Buter) advanced from third to first in the final quarter.
A daughter of So Surreal, Racine Bell is trained by Dave Dewhurst for owners Chris and Dale Lawton. This was her sixth career win, and she has now earned $222,514. She was the 2-1 favorite and paid $6.40 to win.
Hen Party (Andrew McCarthy) was looking for her fourth straight win in the other grouping, and she had the top spot through panels of 28, 56 3/5, and 1:24 4/5 with So Rude (Joe Bongiorno) pocketing up from the pole position. Bongiorno brought So Rude to the outside on the last turn, and she was able to wear down Hen Party in the lane on her way to the victory by three-parts of a length in 1:53. Eye Popping (George Brennan) came in third.
So Rude is a filly by So Surreal and is trained by Jenn Bongiorno for owners Geoffrey Lyons Mound, Glenn Goller, and Abe Basen. So Rude has a record of 5-4-3 from 14 efforts, has pocketed $189,491. She returned $4.50 to win.
