As was the case last week in the TVG finals at the Meadowlands with a number of top-class horses, last year's Breeders Crown and TVG champion Caviart Ally concluded her racing career with a victory in Saturday night's $100,000 Mares Invitational for Blue Chip Matchmaker Series eligibles at Yonkers Raceway. Caviart Ally completed the mile in 1:52 1/5. Driven by Andrew McCarthy, Caviart Ally left from the pole position and secured the pocket behind 4-5 choice Shartin (Tim Tetrick), who shot out from post seven and was in control of the race well before the 27 second opening quarter went on the board. With Lady Dela Renta (Jordan Stratton) parked from post eight and stalled in third on the outside, Tetrick was able to back down the tempo to 56 1/5 at the half and 1:24 at three-quarters, and both Shartin and Caviart Ally got separation on the others on far turn. McCarthy tipped out on the bend with Caviart Ally, and though Shartin had the fractions and position in her favor, Caviart Ally rallied by in the lane, winning by about half a length. Snobbytown (George Brennan) held third after following in that spot behind the top two finishers, and Robyn Camden (Tyler Buter) checked in fourth. Caviart Ally, a 6-year-old Bettor's Delight mare, is trained by Brett Pelling for owner Caviart Farms. This was her 28th career win, and she has now earned $1,974,971. Sent off as the 8-5 second choice, Caviart Ally paid $5.50 to win. According to a tweet by Buck Chaffee, who operates Caviart Farms with his wife, Judy, Caviart Ally will be bred to Captain Crunch.
