Yonkers: Analysis for Wednesday 8/4

Greg Reinhart|Aug 02, 2021
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 152 - 543 / $868.70 (-$217.30)
BEST BETS: 28 - 52 / $100.50 (-$3.50)
SPOT PLAYS: 4 - 52 / $24.70 (-$79.30)
BEST BET -
AMERICAN NITRO (5th)
SPOT PLAY - SOUTHWIND MINA (6th)

Race 1 - 12500CLM Pace

(3) LAREDO TORPEDO N has minded his manners since joining the high-percentage Gareth Dowse barn and was probably going to win last time he raced at Yonkers until he made a break. I'll go with him. (4) ELECTRIC WESTERN beat $15,000 claimers in his debut for trainer Tom Milici on 7-23 but now drops back down to the $12,500 claiming level. That's a little suspicious, and while I think he could definitely win, that's enough of a red flag for me to try and beat him. (2) GYPSY LEATHER hasn't done much winning over the last couple of years but he is in good form right now and was claimed by Andrew Adamczyk on July 27.

Race 2 - NW5000L5/12500CLM Trot

(5) EVITA makes her second start for Jenn Bongiorno tonight and did well enough from an outside post a week ago to think there could be more coming tonight. (4) TOTAL DIVA has finished second in her last two starts at the bottom level at Yonkers and gets reunited with Jordan Stratton. (1) KATKIN AND COKE should have a chance to be more forwardly-placed here as he slides in on the gate from the seven-hole to the pole position. He also has a couple of recent wins, which no one else in this event can say.

Race 3 - F&M NW4/50000LT Pace

(3) SEA OF LOVE BC finished a rallying second to a red-hot foe on 7-14, and she's developed a bit of a good race/bad race pattern, which would mean she's sitting on a good one tonight if it holds. (4) ROBMOTION BLUECHIP has hit the board in five of her last seven races, and her good early foot helps her get well-positioned on a consistent basis. (5) IDEAL IN MIRACLES topped NW2 company at Yonkers back in June and wasn't bad in a NW4 race over the oval on July 14. She then backed that up by coming up just a nose short of defeating NW3's at Harrah's Philadelphia.

Race 4 - F&M NW2/25000LT Pace

(2) YOUR MOMMA invades from Indiana into the Scott Di Domenico barn after flashing a 26 4/5 last quarter out there on 7-21. I like that she has plenty of half-mile track experience from racing in Michigan, too. (7) FRENCH SHAKER keeps hitting the board, but her one career victory came out of town at Harrah's Philadelphia. She switches back to an outside post, too. (3) EYES DON'T LIE picked up a hard-fought win last Wednesday, breaking her maiden in the process. We often see that once horses get a victory and know what that feeling is like, they come right back and do it again.

Race 5 - 12500CLM Pace

(1) AMERICAN NITRO went down the road to win on 7-27 in his second start for trainer Nick Devita, and it sure looks like he should be on the point again here from the pole position. (3) WE THINK ALIKE has been performing well against $10,000 claiming company down at Harrah's Philadelphia and looks usable as he ships in. (6) VILLAGE CHAMP is also in sharp form with three straight on-the-board results.

Race 6 - F&M NW2/25000LT Pace

(7) SOUTHWIND MINA's efforts in the NW3 class at Harrah's Philadelphia make her a contender in this race, even with her poor win record. Trainer Jim King Jr. usually sends them out strong, and she gets Jordan Stratton. (5) OCEANVIEW ECHO raced better on 7-21 and Harrah's Philadelphia and backed that up with a front-stepping second-place finish here at Yonkers last Wednesday. (2) CHANEL BEACH tried to leave out of there a week ago but couldn't find a hole or make the lead and ended up getting parked. She moves inside on the gate tonight, so I'll bank on a quick turnaround.

Race 7 - NW7500L5/Winners in Last Start of the Base Class NW5000L5/15000CLM Trot

(4) TRUMP THIS rallied off cover to tally last Wednesday for trainer Travis Alexander and catches a group here that's either stepping up like he is or struggling at this level. (5) ZAGSTER took advantage of a chance to drop down to the NW5000L5 class to tally a week ago. He has a similar profile to my top pick and is a contender. (3) MONEY MVEN was third as the heavy favorite the last time he met NW5000L5's back in late May and has had a barn change since then.

Race 8 - F&M NW4/50000LT Pace

(1) JUBILEE QUEEN found the NYSS too difficult in her last two tries, but this appears to be a much more reasonable spot in her third attempt for Jenn Bongiorno. (4) THUNDRA came close to knocking off a 1-9 favorite last week. I'll use her underneath given that win-shy record. (3) KISS THE CAPTAIN tallied over NW2 foes a week ago. She went two good races off a qualifier back in May before she went downhill, and this is her second appearance off a qualifier this time.

Race 9 - F&M NW5000L5/12500CLM Pace

(4) GREENHILL HANOVER ships in from Northfield and is a firster for trainer Izzy Estrada. She certainly catches a group she can make an immediate impact against tonight. (6) TEMPURA HANOVER slides over to this level from the NW4's locally and the NW5's down at Harrah's Philadelphia. That could get her headed in the right direction. (7) TENTHOUSAND ANGELS has the first-time Bongiorno angle to consider, but that one-for-39 record the last two years is hard to ignore. She might need one, but I'll include underneath and keep an eye on her.

Race 10 - F&M NW6/75000LT / F&M NW8 Draw Outside Pace

(5) WAKEMESHAKEME came in second on 7-21 despite getting bothered with late on the far turn, and she's been racing well for an extended period of time. I think she's worth a shot. (6) NATASHA went to the lead a week ago but couldn't hold off the pocket-sitter in the stretch. Maybe she's been with a target to chase like when she won on the 14th of July. (3) FOLLOW YOUR NOSE finally gets an inside draw after a series of outside posts both here and at Pocono.

Race 11 - NW10150L5/Winners in Last Start of the Base Class NW7500L5/20000CLM Trot

(4) HALO IT'S ME broke through for her first win of 2021 a week ago. She does step up in class, but this doesn't appear to be too imposing of a group, and I'll bank on her being a "light bulb" horse that's capable of winning again now that she's done it once. (6) TOP FLIGHT ANGEL might be the horse to beat in this race, but he's also had some breaking issues as of late, so I'll pass for the win. (3) BLENHEIM has finished third in his last pair and had to do the first-over work in a pace-less race a week ago.

Race 12 - NW5000L5 Pace

(4) SUPERIOR RAVEN won in the corresponding class to this one at Harrah's Philadelphia on 7-7 and drops out of their NW7000L5 level tonight. (2) JACKAMINO is a first-timer for trainer Gil Garcia-Herrera, and I'll use in the hopes he can get some improvement out of him. (1) THISJETSABOOKIN has been third in his last pair for the Bongiornos and is just one-for-18 this year.
