Yonkers: Analysis for Wednesday 8/18

Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 168 - 590 / $969.60 (-$210.40)
BEST BETS: 30 - 56 / $105.70 (-$6.30)
SPOT PLAYS: 4 - 56 / $24.70 (-$87.30)
BEST BET -
ALLGONOWHOA (3rd)
SPOT PLAY - FOX VALLEY CHARLIZ (5th)

Race 1 - 12500CLM Pace

(7) ROCK N BLUE tried to go down the road last week but came up empty in the last quarter. He's going to get reunited with Joe Bongiorno tonight, and I'll hope for an effort more like that one two back at Harrah's Philadelphia. (1) NORTHERN ROCK was second the last time he was in against $12,500 claimers at Yonkers and finally gets an inside post. (3) FOV VALLEY NEMITZ is another one getting significant relief in the draw department, and he also changes pilots to Dan Dube, perhaps signaling an aggressive approach is forthcoming.

Race 2 - NW5000L5/12500CLM Trot

(3) BINGO QUEEN owns just one victory in the past two years, but none of the rest of these are exactly win machines, and she does seem to be pretty sharp right now. (4) MANWILLING has a lot of experience racing at Yonkers and returns from Tioga off a triumph over there. That moved worked for this barn with Skyway Tinacious last Wednesday. (1) KEYSTONE THUNDER tallied at Pocono from post one on 7-19 and is going to add Matt Kakaley to the bike this time.

Race 3 - 12500CLM Pace

(2) ALLGONOWHOA romped here on August 10 when partnered with Joe Bongiorno for the first time, and he catches another beatable group tonight. (4) CARTERS CAPER gave it one chance against $15,000 claiming company and now slides right back down to the bottom level in his second try for trainer Edwin Quevedo. This horse hit the board a couple times in this class in July. (1) DEERFIELD BEACH was wiped out in an incident that led to a no-contest being declared in his last attempt. Draw a line through that one and he looks usable, especially starting from post one.

Race 4 - F&M NW2/25000LT Pace

(3) PRINCESA ALTA didn't get a chance to race last week as she was scratched due to transportation issues, but all of her recent efforts have been quite good, and she might have some value. (4) ROLL WITH SHORTY broke her maiden in her 18th chance a week ago. Let's see if that's put the light bulb on for her, especially since she races in the same class. (6) ROLL WITH KAY rebounded after breaking at Saratoga on 8-3 with a rallying second-place finish last Wednesday. She was Scott Zeron's choice of a pair in here.

Race 5 - F&M NW5000L5/12500CLM Pace

(5) FOX VALLEY CHARLIZ posted her most recent win in this class on 7-14 and returns to it tonight after facing better optional claimers in her last couple. (1) E R HILARY has a win and two seconds in her last three efforts and gets to start from the pole position. (3) TOO MUCH SUN moves over from the Open at Monticello to the bottom level at Yonkers. This is probably a good spot for her, and she gets to team with leading driver Jordan Stratton.

Race 6 - NW5000L5/12500CLM Trot

(4) BARNEY MAC won over NW5000L5's at Saratoga back in late June and has been facing tougher company since then. I'll give him a chance. (5) UVA HANOVER has four vicories this year and rallied to finish third in one chance against NW5000L5's at Yonkers on the 28th of July. (2) FLY EAGLE FLY is a firster for the Bongiornos from Canada. Usually I'll go with a horse in that situation, but I see that multiple-time O'Brien Award winner Richard Moreau couldn't get this guy to the winner's circle lately, so I'll attempt to beat this one.

Race 7 - F&M NW7500L5/Winners in Last Start of the Base Class NW5000L5/15000CLM Pace

(5) CLASSY CHAPEL N was on a nice run earlier this year that saw her get a third in the Preferred on 6-17, but it's been pretty dry since then. She is going to drop and switch drivers to Dube tonight, so that interests me, at what hopefully is a square price. (2) ROSE RUN VANTAGE has won in her last two tries at the corresponding class to this one at Harrah's Philadelphia. She's never raced at Yonkers before but does have half-mile experience in the Canadian Maritimes and in Ontario. (1) GLENFERRIE BLADE A ships down from Plainridge where she's been on a tear in their optional $15,000 claiming class. Young driver Brett Beckwith is going to get a shot with her for his mother, trainer/owner Melissa Beckwith.

Race 8 - NW8000L5/Winners in Last Start of the Base Class NW5000L5/15000CLM Trot

(1) MADHATTER BLUECHIP drops again after finishing third in his last couple tries against NW15000L5's and NW10000L5's. Add in the significant post relief, and he looks pretty tough. (2) ALL CHAMPY won two straight over at Pocono when he got to partner with a catch driver, and that's the case here as Jason Bartlett got the call. (3) WHETHER OR NOT FI has a good history at Yonkers and made his last trip to the winner's circle at this level on June 30.

Race 9 - F&M NW4/50000LT Pace

(4) CHELSKI posted three wins at Yonkers earlier this year and finished with strong pace on the end of the mile a week ago. (3) EYES DON'T LIE moves up from the NW2's but does so with three straight victories, so she should be full of confidence, and doesn't hook up with the toughest group here. (6) IDEAL HANNAH moves outside on the gate but has been second and third in her last couple.

Race 10 - F&M NW6/75000LT / F&M NW4/50000LT Drawn Inside Pace

(3) ROLL ON MAMA paced home in 27 and change two back at Pocono and then ended up first-over and had to settle for fifth in a subsequent try at Harrah's Philadelphia. I'll hope for a smoother journey from this post and give her a try. (5) ELLAGATOR took plenty of wagering attention back on 7-21 but got jammed up and bothered on the last turn and had to settle for being placed third. She hasn't made a start since that mile, but she races for a high-percentage trainer who normally has them ready to go. (2) LET 'ER BUCK is going to change drivers to Mark MacDonald after finishing in 28 seconds with trainer Ray Schnittker driving her last Wednesday.

Race 11 - NW10050L5/Winners in Last Start of the Base Class NW7500L5/20000CLM Trot

(6) LADY EAGLE probably aimed too high in facing optional $25,000 and $30,000 claimers in her last few tries. She won at this level on 7-14, and I'll bank on the drop getting her back on the right foot. (1) WINDSONG PIONEER qualified in fine fashion at Harrah's Philadelphia on 8-10 and won over NW10000L5's on the 7th of July. (2) KASHA V is bound to get some attention off that 27 4/5 final kicker on August 5. He also gets a lot of post relief, moving in from post eight to the two-hole.

Race 12 - NW5000L5 Pace

(2) FIREBALL moves down in class after being claimed by Scott Di Domenico last time out. Add in that he gets out of post eight, and he's intriguing enough to give a shot. (1) AMERICAN WIGGLE is a newcomer to Ron Burke's barn after a private purchase. He probably fits the bottom level based on those efforts in the Preferred at Georgian Downs. (3) SPRINGSTEEN has a lot of hit and miss efforts in his career at Yonkers and looks like he might be in "reclamation mode" based on his last few performances. He's in the right barn for that, though, as Joe and Jenn Bongiorno are particuarly adept at getting back-class horses going in the right direction again.
