Yonkers: Analysis for Tuesday 8/9

Matt Rose|Aug 08, 2022
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 251 - 759 / $1,281.20 (-$236.80)

BEST BETS: 37 - 70 / $150.20 (+$10.20)

Best Bet: LANJO LEE (2nd)

Spot Play: AIN'T HE SPECIAL (3rd)

Race 1: NY Excelsior A - 3YO C&G Pace

(7) BLUESVILLE comes into this event with three consecutive front-end wins and has really seemed to excel on the half-mile track; he figures to be sent to the front by Buter and if not roughed up too much he'll win again. (5) HUNTED HOUSE has 'seconditis' this season with five runner-up finishes in eight starts. Expect Macdonald to hustle the Schnittker homebred to the lead then release the top choice. (2) FOXHUNT gets Stratton in the bike again an doesn't have that much to beat to take home third money.

Race 2: NY Excelsior A - 3YO C&G Pace

(7) LANJO LEE is 10 for 13 on the season and looks much the best of these, despite starting from the worst post. (1) SHAKERTOWN goes second-time Lasix and the Alagna trainee could show some improvement. Moving all the way inside helps his cause. (4) BLOODHOUND has a recent win and a third in Excelsior action.

Race 3: 3-5 YO NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime Pace

(1) AIN'T HE SPECIAL was a very impressive winner beating NW2's in his local debut but his last couple he failed to get involved from outside posts. Gillis trainee moves inside and Stratton figures to have him closer to the action. (4) JK STANDINGOVATION invades from Hoosier and joins Team Bongiorno. Indy-bred has a 1:51 1/5 mark this year, likes to win, and should be a good fit here. (5) LATEST ERA has two solid seconds since Garcia-Herrera took over.

Race 4: 3-4YO NW2 races or $25,000 Lifetime Pace

(5) PICK A GENRE has come up a bit short in his two local starts (though placed first last out) after arriving from Minnesota but the Bongiorno trainee was better in that last try and he can take the next logical step forward tonight. (8) UNSUNG HERO made a splash in his career debut and has followed that up with good, but not outstanding efforts. Note that Burke now trains the 3-year-old, which means a driver upgrade to Brennan. (3) DANCE MONEY comes in from Canada to join the DiDomenico stable and he's hinted at ability with that near-miss in a 1:53 1/5 mile at Georgian. Stratton gets the catch-drive.

Race 5: 3-5YO F&M NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime Pace

(1) BETTER WATCH IT has had a decent season up in Canada and now she ships down to join the Burke Brigade. Mare had been saddled with a series of outside posts recently but lands the rail in her local debut. (2) CHERYLS SHADOW paid $2.10 to win when she disposed of a NW2 field in her local unveiling; she faces tougher here but could have more to offer. (5) SOMESWEETSOMEWHERE has had some moderate success in Pennsylvania for Toscano but is 0 for eight and counting on the season.

Race 6: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) FEELIN WESTERN was a high-priced claim back in June and he's starting to return some dividends with a close second and third at this level. Cory Stratton trainee faces a couple of tough ones inside of him but could be primed to score. (1) ROCK THE DEVIL hasn't hit the board in three starts after returning from a long layoff but he seems to be steadily improving; Bartlett drives. (2) CAPTAIN FANCY returns locally off a solid runner-up effort at Pocono timed in 1:50.

Race 7: NYSS 3YO C&G Pace

(3) JD is clearly the most accomplished of these and the Schnittker trainee returns to Yonkers coming off three straight easy front-end wins; short price looming but I don't see anything standing in his way. (8) TWIN B DELUXE does have five wins on the season and three back he was a solid winner here in an overnight event. He's shown enough early speed when needed and I assume Bartlett won't be content getting away last. (7) BOUNTY HUNTER faltered as the even-money choice last out in NYSS action at Batavia but all of his prior efforts were solid.

Race 8: NYSS 3YO C&G Pace

(1) SEVEN HUNDRED was a nice pocket-sitting winner last out in a NYSS event at Batavia and the Jake Leamon trainee figures to get a similar trip tonight; Brennan gets the call in this competitive split. (3) SHAKE IT chased JD last start and was tiring from the pocket; Chris Ryder trainee has four wins on the year but none recently and will have to step it up here but he was Bartlett's choice over a Dowse trainee. (4) KINGSVILLE has plenty of speed and has been tearing it up at the Excelsior A level but is unproven with these NYSS types; smaller share?

Race 9: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace

I firmly believe that when (1) CAVIART CHERIE is on her game she can compete and be successful with this type. With the move all the way inside I'll give her one more chance. (4) JOSSIE JAMES A moves to the Dowse barn off the $50K claim and Bartlett drives; logical. (2) VELOCITY MCSWEETS is proven with these and she goes for two straight; Joe B drives again.
