Yonkers: Analysis for Tuesday 8/24

Matt Rose|Aug 23, 2021
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 276 - 784 / $1,502.40 (-$65.60)

BEST BETS: 38 - 75 / $119.60 (-$30.40)

Best Bet: DEAL THE CARDS (8th)

Spot Play: LINNYCALLEDFRANKIE (10th)

Race 1: NYSS 2YO C&G Pace

(3) EARLY ACTION overcame an early break and won going away at a short price in his first NYSS test; he'll offer no value here but figures to win as he pleases, assuming he behaves himself. (4) GONE BEFORE DAWN raced well in the Springfield to start his career and was second best to the top one last week. (1) TE AMO BLUE CHIP has flashed early speed in his last few tries and draws the rail here; he can hold for a share.

Race 2: NYSS 2YO C&G Pace

(4) PICKUP MAN HANOVER has done little wrong in his brief career and the other main contenders in here have some question marks; Huntsville offspring seems like the safer play. (2) STRETCH THE LINE obviously has serous talent but had also broken stride in three of his seven lifetime starts. (6) PLEASELETMEKNOW breezed through the Springfield and followed that up with a NYSS victory but has been away for a month coming off a sick scratch; be careful.

Race 3: Excelsior A 2YO C&G Pace

(2) VARNEY was a good second in his career debut at Pocono and he enters the Excelsior level where he can face much softer competition; top billing. (5) BLOODHOUND was repelled last out making a second move into the frontrunner last start but looked good on the front end his prior two starts. (1) FOXHUNT was second best in his last two for Alagna but those final quarters aren't all that impressive.

Race 4: $12,500 Claiming Pace

(3) WAVES OF FIRE A had tough trips in his last two but he gets much-needed post relief tonight which gives this veteran a big shot. (8) POCKET WATCH N fired to the front from the eight hole last week, can do so again for his new barn. (2) VILLAGE CHAMP offered up nothing last week from a tough spot; he goes for another new barn tonight and moves back inside.

Race 5: NW2 races or $25,000 lifetime Pace

(4) JIM BLUE ships from Mohawk Park to make his local debut for the Lance Hudson barn and he had been racing fairly competitively north of the border; he looks like a good fit here. (1) CURBSIDE PICKUP managed to pick up a check in the Adios elimination and while overmatched versus the top three-year-olds this type should be right up his alley; I suspect he'll be overbet, however. (6) SOME DEAL HANOVER and (7) MICKEYS SPIRIT both have talent but may be in line for long trips from these tough starting spots.

Race 6: $20,000 Claiming Pace

(6) KINGSTONS BAD BOY has been a popular commodity at the claim box despite not showing a heck of a lot on the racetrack since arriving from Northfield a few months back; he goes for Jenn Bongiorno now and wouldn't be a surprise if he showed serious improvement. (1) MAJOR BUCKS has raced well in his last two and now moves all the way inside. (2) RANSOM DEMAND was a solid winner last week versus $15K claimers (at a big overlay price) and he logically steps up in price tonight.

Race 7: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(6) TIGER BARON was used early last week to secure a trip then got jammed in the pocket as the leader collapsed; he's proven with this type and should offer a good price from this spot. (2) FINE DIAMOND is making his way back down the class ladder; he should be much more involved here. (1) PAT STANLEY N was uninvolved in his last two from outside posts; logic would dictate he's got a live chance now.

Race 8: (1) NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime Pace

(1) DEAL THE CARDS missed a year of action but the Schnittker trainee has come back looking super in taking three straight; I expect him to get it done again. (3) FURIOUS BEACH gave it a good try on the front end last start facing straight $20K claimers; DiDomenico trainee moves back to the age-restricted ranks and should come away with a good piece. (4) MR DUNNIGANS qualified twice up at Vernon in preparation for his return to the racing wars; we'll see how he fits in here.

Race 9: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) BIG BAD BILL was put on the front end last week and ended up a sharp and solid winner; I think he's good enough now to handle better. (5) ALTA LEROY N doesn't win often but he flashed big early gate speed last start and that could set him up with a nice trip. (3) KILLER MARTINI has been enigmatic for quite some time now, and even coming from the Bongiorno barn now I still don't have much confidence in him. He will take plenty of money, however.

Race 10: NW6 races or $75,000 lifetime Pace

(7) LINNYCALLEDFRANKIE was in a tough spot last week and also made an uncharted break in the final turn, but he finished overloaded with pace. Hopefully he can get more involved this time around. (1) CAPTIVATE HANOVER tries Bongiorno tonight, has been sharp and lands the rail. (2) CAPTAIN FANCY has had a hard time getting his 3YO season underway after flashing talent as a youngster.

Race 11: NW15020 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) CAN B PERFECT seems to have maintained his form despite a string of outside posts. Class relief and move inside gets him over the top. (1) DANCIN DRAGON is capable with these and should be sitting a live trip. (3) OAKWOODNITOWNIT IR likely needed last week's start after missing a month of action; he too lands in a better spot.

Race 12: NW10000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) THE DOWNTOWN BUS has been unable to muster a win since returning locally and he certainly seems overdue; Gillis trainee hopes to get it done in the finale. (1) TOPVILLE OLYMPIAN drops from claimers into this seemingly softer spot and also gets major post relief. (3) LIFEONTHEBEACH A offered a decent uncovered move upon arrival but was swallowed up by the closers; not sure what kind of trip he's in for tonight but he deserves consideration.
