Yonkers: Analysis for Tuesday 8/16

Matt Rose|Aug 15, 2022
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 277 - 814 / $1,394.00 (-$234.00)

BEST BETS: 42 - 76 / $169.20 (+$17.20)

Best Bet: NO LOU ZING (2nd)

Spot Play: LIGHTNING LEIA (3rd)

Race 1: 3-5YO NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime Pace

(2) EXOTIC SAND had some bad luck two back when he was set back to second but made up for it in a big way in his last start where he was likely going to be a clear third but the top two made late breaks. Corelli trainee has been solid in all recent efforts and he deserves top billing. (5) UNSUNG HERO paced a big back half to beat lesser in his local (and Burke) debut and he clearly has the talent to handle better. (3) DANCING JOE almost surprised at a huge price last week for longshot specialist Braxton Boyd.

Race 2: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) NO LOU ZING faces significantly softer tonight and really has no excuse to fail. (2) WINDSUN RICKY is better a level or two lower but he draws well and should be close to the pace. (4) SHADOW CAT was a solid winner at this level three back but drawing outside of the top choice figures to hurt his chances.

Race 3: 3-5YO F&M NW4 races or $50,122 lifetime Pace

(2) LIGHTNING LEIA picked up a check in the Park MGM Pace and the filly returns locally off a nice effort at Pocono; Kakaley is back driving for Alexander and she deserves a long look from this inside post. (5) SOMESWEETSOMEWHERE was second best upon arrival and kept up well in the sprint home; big player. (3) CAPTAIN'S STAR arrives for Erv and Marcus Miller on the strength of three consecutive wins at Pocono.

Race 4: 3-4YO NW2 races or $31,255 lifetime Pace

(3) CAPTAIN BUTLER faced better in his last two at the NW4 level but he was basically written into this NW2 race as the earnings cap was raised, and he draws best of the main contenders. (5) LOU'S BEACH has been burning money here but he did close very well last week. (4) COLD CREEK FELIPE was quick to the lead last start and rated kindly but was visibly tiring late; Harris trainee still merits consideration with Bartlett driving.

Race 5: NW5000 in last 5 starts Pace

(6) ACES ROCK was a good second last start and he now faces a bit softer in his third try off the Cory Stratton claim; post doesn't help things but he figures to offer some value in this wide-open event. (1) MOHAWK WARRIOR has really fallen on hard times recently but he's proven to be much more capable than what he's been showing. (5) NOCH TEN arrives from Mohawk for a barn that shuttles them back and forth and this gelding has shown zero in his last few tries; figures to be overbet with Bartlett driving.

Race 6: 3-4YO F&M NW2 races or $25,000 lifetime Pace

(4) CRAZY LUCKY arrived from Ohio, added Lasix and went a long trip at a big price before tiring. These connections have had some success with shippers so maybe she's worth a try. (1) CLEAR THE WAY was a good second last out and lands inside again with Bartlett; seems pretty logical. (5) NOT SO EVIL is now trained by DiDomenico and goes from Pat Berry to Brennan; she had been showing good speed at Philly.

Race 7: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace

(4) VELOCITY MCSWEETS tired under pressure last week but she gets Kakaley back in the bike and overall she's been very consistent at this $50K claiming level. If she makes the front without too much trouble she may prove tough to catch. (2) AHOY was second best to the top one two back and overall the Burke trainee has been racing well. (1) CAVIART CHERIE tailed off a bit from the pocket last week but did finish up okay; after selecting her on top the last few starts I have downgraded her to third, so maybe it's time to hop on board.

Race 8: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) PRICELESS BEACH gets some welcome class relief and also lands inside again; he was a sharp Open winner not too long ago. (2) ONE EIGHT HUNDRED has generally been underachieving for the Takter barn but he flashed solid speed in his local debut and maybe the four-year-old can build off that effort; Stratton drives over his brother's horse. (5) LONG WEEKEND A has hit the board in his last four Yonkers races, including an upset win last start.

Race 9: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) ODDS ON DELRAY and (2) BECKHAMS Z TAM both plunge in class off claims and will take all the money but I'm not exactly hanging around to send it in on either one of them. (3) TIN ROOF RAIDER A beat bottom-feeders at Pocono and the Erv Miller trainee had a decent 2021 season at Yonkers with over $60K banked.
