Yonkers: Analysis for Tuesday 7/26

Matt Rose|Jul 25, 2022
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 251 - 759 / $1,281.20 (-$236.80)

BEST BETS: 37 - 70 / $150.20 (+$10.20)

Best Bet: THRESHOLD (5th)

Spot Play: EXOTIC SAND (4th)

Race 1: F&M NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime Pace

(1) TAVA lands the innermost post in this competitive race and she put in a much-improved effort from when we last saw her a couple of months ago. Devita trainee can build off that second-place effort. (2) HESTON HONEY bumped to this level and was an upset winner with Steve Smith in the bike. She goes back to her regular driver Bartlett and has a live chance to make it three straight. (4) YS ISA failed as the heavy favorite coming out of the same race as the top two. Stratton gets the drive tonight and the price obviously goes up.

Race 2: F&M NW2 races or $25,000 lifetime Pace

(6) CHERYLS SHADOW arrives from Mohawk to join the Dilloian barn, added Lasix and cruised in that recent qualifier; filly draws outside her main competition but that figures to help the price. (2) NOT SO EVIL has been a money burner recently at Philly but she too lands in a new barn and picks up a new driver in Bongiorno. (1) CLEAR THE WAY was okay last week, gets Bartlett tonight.

Race 3: NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime Pace

(3) HP LIS SHADOW jogged in her first local start after shipping from Canada then was up against it last week and was no match to the top two in the 1:51 4/5 mile. Bartlett is back driving the Andrew Harris trainee and he should be tough in here. (5) STILL THIRSTY threw in another one of his breaks last week but he wasn't going anywhere anyway; he gets some post relief and can be more involved. (2) DANCING JOE was third best recently and seems capable of rounding out the exotics again.

Race 4: NW2 races or $25,000 lifetime Pace

(4) EXOTIC SAND had pace in traffic two back then rallied well from a no-chance spot last out. Veteran horseman Tom Corelli has some decent stock and this one should be a player from this midpack post. (6) COLD CREEK FILIPE was a well-rated winner in his local debut and the Harris trainee is obviously capable of repeating. (5) PICK A GENRE acclimated decently last week in the same race that #6 came out of and the Bongiorno trainee can show more tonight.

Race 5: NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime Pace

(1) THRESHOLD was a solid second last week to a strong winner and he faces no standouts tonight; down the road. (4) MAKE MY DEO was tiring from the pocket last out but was still second best; he'll probably complete a chalky exacta. (7) AIN'T HE SPECIAL never got involved last week but was super in his prior two starts. He figures to be coming from too far back.

Race 6: NW2 races or $25,000 lifetime Pace

(6) TRENDY TEEN is zero for 12 on the season but he arrives at Yonkers with a barn change to Engblom and he gets a massive driver upgrade to Bartlett, who I'm confident will coax more speed out of this gelding. (7) LOU'S BEACH continues to burn money week after week but he continues to be an attractive offering on paper with his early speed; use on top at your own risk. (3) BEST BETTOR wasn't awful in two local starts last month and a couple of starts back he finished second in an Excelsior event at Goshen, timed in 1:54.

Race 7: NW6 races or $77,610 lifetime Pace

(5) LAYTON HANOVER found an easy spot last week and jogged. Alexander trainee meets some tougher rivals here but he has a tactical edge on one of them who's to his right on the gate (6) PJ LOU looked best last start in his return to overnights and he drew away sharply; obvious threat to repeat, especially if he can make the lead, (4) BIG CHIC MAGNET recently moved to the Jenn Bongiorno barn and is a head shy of a four-race winning streak. He arrives from across the river coming off a lifetime-best of 1:49 3/5.

Race 8: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace

I'm giving (6) CAVIART CHERIE one more chance. Mare has run hot and cold for years and recently seemed to be on a major upswing but was totally uninvolved last week in a race with little movement. This seems to be a better spot tonight. (3) AHOY has looked good racing against lesser and the Burke trainee is back in for a tag here, and draws well enough. (5) VELOCITY MCSWEETS has been very consistent of late for strong connections.

Race 9: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) BRONX SEELSTER gets needed post relief and is a legitimate speed threat. Two back he was a solid second in 1:51 4/5 after cutting the mile. (5) PACE N PRIDE N faces tougher here but those last-quarter splits in his last three races are impressive. (4) LOU'S SWEETREVENGE gets some class relief in his second start off the Bako claim.
